This is the time of year that all the major media outlets like to come our with their best and worst lists of 2004.  It should come as no surprise, but reality TV provided an easy target for many critic’s worst lists.  Reality TV shows appeared on lists from both the New York Daily News and Entertainment Weekly.

Reality TV shows appearing on the New York Daily News Top Ten Worst List include The Biggest Loser, Family Plots, Fear Factor, Growing Up Gotti, The Real Gilligan’s Island, The Swan, Todd TV.  No reality tv shows appeared on the New York Daily News Top Ten Best List, but The Apprentice, Survivor, Celebrity Poker Showdown, American Idol, and The Amazing Race were mentioned as "superb second-stringers."

Reality TV shows appearing on Entertainment Weekly’s Worst 5 TV Shows included The Swan and The Women of The Apprentice 2, and both Reality Unleashed and Celebrity Mole: Hawaii made it on Entertainment Weekly’s Worst 5 DVDs.  No reality TV shows appeared on Entertainment Weekly’s Best of Television or Best of DVDs list.

Oh Lord…………As is usually the case, anytime Hollywood finds a bandwagon that works they are quick to jump on and run it into the ground until we, as the viewing public, want to puke. What was once a clever idea, has now become a joke. Every stupid, ultimate has-been, again want to be famous for 15 minutes is making us as sick. Danny Bonaducci, Hogan Knows Best, Kathy Griffin, the purely awful waste of a half hour with that Chris “Peter Brady” Knight, Growing Up Gotti (shudder…)are all the same. Who cares if Mr. Bonaducci passes out, injects himself with steriods, screams and cries like a little girl. Victoria Gotti and her brain dead sons are trying to make us think that her murderous father was a saint. Hulk Hogan is what, 60? Way to old to be dressing like he is 30. Just awful. Lets be done with this, and put this horrible period of television far behind us. But this is to be expected. Every network is to blame. No more. Every network should be ashamed of themselves. Keeping this crap on the air. But a network that keeps Joey, Life With Jim, the rip-off CSI shows, and Yes Dear on the air is expected to pollute the airways with these stupid programs. The best we can hope for is every one of these audience insulting reality shows goes away forever, and the people that appear on them, to never be heard from again.
