Fox Press Release – FOX’s powerhouse AMERICAN IDOL returned on a high note last week, as nearly 66 million tuned in to the Washington, DC and St. Louis audition episodes.  In fact, the debut of AMERICAN IDOL 4 was the highest rated entertainment telecast of the season on ANY NETWORK among Adults 18-49 (14.0/33) AND Total Viewers (33.6 million) – bigger than any episode of CSI, Desperate Housewives, etc.

It’s the highest rated entertainment telecast since last year’s Friends series finale (on 5/6/04) in these measures.  This marks the second highest rated telecast of AMERICAN IDOL ever in most measures, behind only the season finale of American Idol 2 and is FOX’s third highest rated night ever with entertainment programming among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.  Additionally, Tuesday’s AMERICAN IDOL 4 gave FOX its highest Tuesday night EVER among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.

AMERICAN IDOL-WED posted a phenomenal 11.2/27 among Adults 18-49 with 26.7 Million Total Viewers, outperforming ABC’s Lost by +51% among Adults 18-49 and +36% in Total Viewers.  Additionally, the Wednesday preview of POINT PLEASANT was FOX’s highest rated new drama debut in over three years among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers (since the premiere of 24 on 11/6/01) and showed tremendous growth versus FOX’s prior 04/05 season average in the time period excluding sports, increasing +77% among Adults 18-49 and +64% in Total Viewers. Through its first five hours, critically acclaimed drama 24 is up an amazing +33% in Adults 18-49 and +41% in Total Viewers compared to the same weeks last season (10/28-11/25/03).  24 also out-delivered its same episode last year by +13% in Adults 18-49 and +17% in Total Viewers.
