Carrie Underwood ,who is becoming known as one of Simon Cowell’s favorite contestants, has quite a bit of background in the music industry. Carrie use to perform with a band called The Starrise Band and played in events all over the South. An old Carrie Underwood website (no longer online) detailed even more of the singer’s professional music background. Carrie has been the opening act for "Diamond Rio", "The Wilkinson’s", "Exile", " "Gene Watson," Billy Hoffman" and "Earl Thomas Conley". Carrie has also recorded in Nashville with Chuck Howard and John Guess, and she has recorded songs written by Beth Neilson Chapman.
On American Idol 4, Carrie has been portrayed as a somewhat ditzy blonde farm girl. She misinterpreted Ryan Seacrest asking about movie "stars" and started talking about heavenly "stars" and clouds. She also had to get Constantine Maroulis to explain to her if a slang comment someone made to her was good or bad. But according to the fan website CarrieUnderwoodOnline.com, Carrie was an honor student, a straight "A" student, and a member of the National Honor Society.
