Los Angeles Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa announced that "fear is not a factor for Los Angeles" as two world-class stunt performers-engulfed in flames-traversed a 1000-ft. high-wire above the theme park to introduce Universal Studios Hollywood" highly-anticipated attraction, "Fear Factor Live."
Following the world-record stunt, the "loser" dined on an enormous bug before leading guests to a special advance preview of "Fear Factor Live." "Fear Factor Live" officially opens to the public on Saturday, June 18.
Inspired by the phenomenally popular television series, "Fear Factor Live" is an all-new interactive attraction that catapults ordinary people into extraordinary situations allowing them to challenge themselves, conquer their fears and test their physical and mental limits as they participate in a progression of extreme stunts before a live audience.
Opening simultaneously at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando, "Fear Factor Live" marks the first time a blockbuster reality television show has been transformed into a theme park attraction. Following an intense in-park audition process, audience members will experience the thrill of the blockbuster series in a way they could not before: live. Throughout each show, up to 18 park guests will compete against each other in a series of extreme stunts that have been developed with help from Fear Factor’s creators.
"Fear Factor Live" will be the most intense audience participatory attraction ever created and will allow the entire family to experience the thrill and emotion associated with participating in extreme, pulse-pounding stunts, previously reserved for trained professionals. Over the course of a year, more than 50,000 people will have a chance to participate in "Fear Factor Live," where they will be taken out of their comfort zones and placed in unfamiliar territory as the experience preys on basic human fears.
"The odds are more in your favor for getting into Harvard than being chosen to appear on Fear Factor," said the show’s executive producer, Matt Kunitz. "With Fear Factor Live, people will now have the chance to participate in some of the same stunts we’ve done on the show."
With the attraction opening at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Parks & Resorts continues to build upon the merger of NBC and Universal Studios, integrating the entertainment content of the new company.
"Our theme parks are known for thrilling, cutting-edge, entertainment," said Tom Williams, chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts. "Creating an extreme experience such as Fear Factor Live is perfect for us ? and a perfect way to fit our brand within the NBC brand."
"I’ve always referred to Fear Factor as an extreme theme park ride," said David Goldberg, President of Endemol USA. "It has become a self-fulfilling prophecy now that Fear Factor Live will be a permanent attraction at two of the world’s greatest theme parks."
