And the Winner of Dancing with the Stars Is…

July 05, 2005 11:03 PM by Joe Blackmon

Dancing with the Stars, the breakout reality TV hit of the Summer, comes to an end Wednesday night.  ABC will re-air last week’s episode from 8:00 to 9:00 P.M. ET.  On last week’s episode, the three remaining couples danced the Paso Doble and the Foxtrot, and Joey McIntyre and Ashly Delgrossa were eliminated.  Immediately following the repeat, the finale of Dancing with the Stars will air from 9:00P.M. to 10:01 P.M. ET. on Wednesday, July 6, 2005.

The stage is set for the ultimate showdown between the final two couples.  John O’ Hurley and partner Charlotte Jorgensen square off against Kelly Monaco and partner Alec Mazo.  John O’ Hurley has had a lengthy career in television including Over the Top, A Whole New Ball Game, The Weber show, and Scorch.  John has had more than 50 guest-starring roles in such shows as Frasier and The X Files.  However, John is probably best known for his role as catalogue king J. Peterman on Seinfield.  Kelly Monaco currently stars in ABC’s daytime soap General Hospital.  She plays Sam McCall, the pregnant mistress of Port Charles’ mob boss Sonny Corinthos.  Kelly has also appeared in Port Charles, Spin City, and a variety of feature films.

In a Summer full of reality TV shows, many critics didn’t give Dancing with the Stars much of a chance when it was first announced.  However, with so many shows being so similar, the originality and uniqueness of Dancing with the Stars has won over viewers.  Dancing with the Stars has been the surprise hit of the Summer and has even renewed interest in ballroom dancing.  The Dancing with the Stars finale will likely score huge ratings numbers.

Who do you think will win Dancing with the Stars?  Will it be John & Charlotte or Kelly & Alec?  Post you guess for the Dancing with the Stars winner in the comment section below.

John and Charlotte should, they are so much better than Kelly and Alec, John’s quickstep was amazing, he’s a much better dancer than Kelly is. I think those of you who want Kelly and Alec to win are only thinking about them photogenically. Kelly can’t dance all that well. She’s bad. JOHN AND CHARLOTTE!

I cannot believe John and Charlotte were robbed of their earned victory just because Kelly did a series of flips in her last dance. I don’t deny she improved immensely from the beginning of the series to the end, but John and Charlotte were the epitome of class and grace and that is the whole premise of ballroom dancing. John and Charlotte are the true champions.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for a great show this summer! Simply the best! We want more of the same. Loved watching all the dancers, and even though I am a John and Charlotta fan, congrats to Kelly and Alec! Superb!

It is pretty pathetic that it turned out the way it did. Kelly and Alec made two big bobbles in the freestyle dance and none of the judges said a thing. I just hope the judges and/or the show producers did not rig it so that they won. It sure looked that way. It is very suspicious that they waited until the very end to give any 10s when there was nothing special about that last dance at all. John and Charlotte were perfect in both of the last two dances and the judges were very complimentary to them in all respects. How could they lose? Plus they were better than Kelly and Alec last week. They led us to believe that this week’s audience vote was compiled from the end of the last episode until the end of this episode. What I suspect happened is that the producers had an up to the minute total of audience plus first dance scores then went to the judges before the second dance and told them the only way that Kelly and Alec could win was if they got a minimum of three points more in the second dance than John and Charlotte. After John and Charlotte got three 9′s they ended up giving Kelly and Alec three 10s for a performance that was good but did not deserve three 10s. I watched the show from the second week and John and Charlotte were better than Kelly and Alec every week and particularly tonight. I will not watch any second season of this if they decide to bring it back because of what happened tonight. Just like we all knew that the Canadians were better than the Russians in the Olympics, it was pretty obvious that John and Charlotte were better tonight. Our whole house of people watching tonight groaned when the result was announced. Not one person agreed with Kelly and Alec winning. Sad!

Totally rigged. I counted 3 huge goofs in Kelly and Alec’s last dance. She slipped twice and then Alec bumped into her shoulder, nearly spinning her. And they got 10′s?!!

This was an obvious rigging of the winners and I will not be watching this BS again.

Save your time and watch something else.

    Very upset!

I agree with the others about it being riged. Kelly & Alec were not good at all. Charlotte & John had class & just looked elegant on the dance floor. I thought that Kelly & Alec were stiff, they did not look like they were comfortable.
I believe they won because of Kelly’s looks, the judges were very unfair. John & Charlotte put rings around everyone else, they had style plus class.

I will not watch another one again, as this was clearly mis-judged. I think the judges need their eyes checked. So Sad!!!!

The people who wrote negative comments about Kelly need to stop, grow up and realize we are in the 21st century. Looks do count, sex sells, etc. Kelly did a fantastic job and deserves a lot of credit for her vast improvement since the first show. Kelly is a beautiful women. Did that possibly play a part in the outcome? Possibly. But like I said, we are in the 21st century. For those who say they will not watch the next contest if there is one. Trust me, there will be enough people watching to make up for you not. Good riddance.

She did good, but it wasn’t a perfect 10.

My wife and I watched every show, and we both enjoyed watching it. However, every single week we could not understand how Kelly, kept staying in. It was amazing.

John & Charlotte were amazing from the beginning, and even they improved each week, but not anywhere near as significantly as Kelly did.

However, this competition was not based on who improved the most, it was who were the better dancers. The last night of dances were easily won by John & Charlotte and even more entertaining (unless you are looking for ASSets). I am assuming that what was posted above is also true, that there COULD NOT BE A TIE, therefore a 3 to 3 tie (very possible) could not happen. Granted ABC was trying to get people to call (spend money) and vote on who should win. Well most of us with a life do not want to spend money on things like that, and also when you see the performances in front of you, why do you need to vote for a sure thing (John & Charlotte).

It would be easy for people to see calls coming in and who voted for who, but it is very hard for judges to be shown as changing their score. So in this case they already knew one side, so they had to get the judges to go that way as well.

Now I can understand why you would want to try to do the votes this way, but it does not work. Especially when it comes down to two, it should not have a viewer poll at all anymore (in the last show), it should just be the judges, and then it can be honest (no ties to deal with).

I would not watch a second season either, unless they changed how things get scored/judged.

    Thanks,
    Steven Stuart

Nothing like late comments. I too liked John and Charlotta. However, I watched every Kelly improve every single week. Looking at John and Kelly individually, I think Kelly outdanced John the last 2 weeks. I liked John/Charlotta’s Pasadoble, but I loved Kelly/Alec’s. As for the final free dance, I really think Kelly outdanced John. Just my opinion.

she is a terrific actress – guess you must not have ever followed port charles before general hospital…and not only that – she is a very giving, selfless young lady who is open minded and doesn’t have hardening of the arteries which I think John is starting to develop (it DOES begin in your 40s….lol)

“Dancing with the Stars” – Series 2 (2006)

Saw the Results show last night on ABC. So Master P makes it to the next round where Rap will meet Quickstep. It’s a Surreal Life, isn’t it? Ashley is so “cute”!

One of the nice things to see is how there are two Black contestants participating in Ballroom … as indicated in the DanceScape Passion thread, Blacks in Ballroom, there tends to be lower participation from the Black community. Maybe we’re seeing a new trend here, as Ballroom Dancing becomes more accessible to everyone across various cultures!

Realize he was horrible BUT … would love to see if there is a strong enough Rap audience to support Master P.

It would actually have been fun to see his son, Romeo, which would reach an even younger urban group.

Lisa Rinna is beautiful but PLEASE, someone tell her to stop getting so much collagen in her lips. She’s gorgeous enough without having such extreme lips. Her husband, Harry Hamlin, was in the audience.

Drew Lachey’s brother, Nick, was also in the audience. Too bad he split up with Jessica Simpson … it would have been a media frenzy to have Jessica and Nick cheering for Drew at the event, and if their MTV show had continued, they could have even visited Drew while he practised for Dancing with the Stars. Alas, we’ll never know!

So Stacy Keibler is a World Wrestling Entertainer/Wrestler? Our knowledge of pro lady wrestlers to date had been Chyna Doll (a.k.a. Joanie Laurer – anyone see her on The Surreal Life?) … steroids & boob job gone mad (now, she would have been an interesting contestant also, although the show would have to be renamed “Dancing with the Freaks” – case in point, look at the photo on the right!). Stacy Keibler looks so slim and flexible … has anyone actually seen her wrestle?

David Letterman had a funny joke the other day …

“Dancing” + Celebrities = “Dancing with the Stars”

“Dancing” – Celebrities = “Dancing with the Stars”

On another note, Howard Stern premiered on Sirius radio. It was quite interesting to listen to his interview with Larry King on CNN. He said that he tended to TiVo shows like “Smallville” (about Superman’s beginnings). He was also one of the few in the shock media circuit to actually support “Dancing with the Stars” Series I and predicted it would do well. Any Howard Stern fans, here? If Howard produced this show, can you imagine what kind of guests he would bring in (actually, he did say his “coolest” radio guests have been Stevie Wonder and Arnold Schwarzenegger).

It’s fun to be able to just talk about Dancing with non-ballroom enthusiasts. Great variety show-styled entertainment! Don’t know about you, but we’re curious how Master P is going to do in the Quickstep … and whether he will wear a Tailsuit with a Baseball Cap and Sneaker. Maybe he’ll set a new trend in men’s Ballroom Fashions.

Look forward to reading more comments about the show!

I can’t believe that Lisa Rinna was actually voted out, while Jerry Rice remained. He is a gentleman, he is charming unlike the elephant P U that was permitted to continue because of all of his homies calling in, but really, get real, you know he could not hold up to Lisa with all her energy and natural rythim and grace. She does have ugly lips though! I certainly hope it’s not going to go the it was in the very beginning, whereby people call in simply because they want to support their idol whether he can dance or not. Jerry Rice is nice, he is stiff though, not a natural like Lisa. So I would be very dismayed if he remains the following week, and Drew Lachey is voted out. What a shame.

Jerry Rice is not a dancer and can in no way compare to Lisa Rinna. He is not in anyway graceful, in fact, I would consider the man clumbsy. How he made it this far in this contest is beyond my comprehension. I really think he should keep his talent where it belongs on the football field and keep his dancing purely for fun in his favorite nite spots.
