The Scholar Winner is Melissa

July 18, 2005 10:29 PM by Joe Blackmon

Melissa_scholarAmari, Scott, Melissa, Liz, and Milana competed on the finale of The Scholar for the prize of a full-ride scholarship to the college of their choice.  The first challenge involved facing questions from the scholarship committee.  One of the questions was “If you could have dinner with any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?”  The answers ranged from Jesus Christ to Angelina Jolie.  Surprisingly, it was actually a female contestant (Liz) who picked Angelina Jolie.

Based on the scholarship committee’s review of the answers, Liz and Milana were eliminated.  Amari, Scott, and Melissa moved forward to the final challenge.  Each of the final three were asked to select one of their fellow contestants to give a speech on their behalf and to also give their own speech.  Amari selected Liz, Melissa selected Milana, and Scott selected Jeremy.

As a surprise, someone close to each of the contestants showed up to also speak on their behalf.  After the speeches, the scholarship committee evaluated the three finalists.  The four contestants in the final five who did not win were awarded $50,000 scholarships.  And so that nobody left empty-handed, the contestants who did not make it to the final five were awarded $20,000 scholarships.  However, the big winner of the night was Melissa who took home a full-ride scholarship valued at a quarter of a million dollars.  Melissa’s college of choice was Pomona College.

Maybe it might be nice if you keep the spoilers out of your titles from now on. *sigh*

she really deserves it. overall, she represents the best contestant. she succeeds both as leader and a team player.
after her undergraduate studies, we will send her to oxford.
