Rock Star: INXS – Is J.D. the Star of the Show?

July 26, 2005 12:23 AM by Joe Blackmon

Jd_championsAt this point, J.D. Fortune seems to be the only one of Rock Star: INXS who has realized that the show is a competition.  All the other rock stars continue to play nice while J.D. plots his strategy to win the game.  The Monday, July 25, 2005 episode starts at the mansion with all the rock stars upset over Neal Carlson’s elimination.  Ty Taylor breaks down into tears, and Jessica Robinson says she feels guilty that she’s still there, while Neal is gone.

However, the mourning is cut short, and the rock stars once again focus on J.D., who is rapidly becoming the star of the show.  J.D. wants to make sure everyone is cool with him after what he said last week.  While the other rock stars say it is ok, it is obvious that J.D.’s words have not been forgotten.

The rock star clinic this week involves each of the rock stars getting a critique of their performances by INXS.  J.D. of course points out that the only advice they had for him was “not to be to cocky.”  During the song selection, J.D. once again proves he is playing to win, as he pulls Jordis aside and convinces her to let him have “We are the Champions” as his song selection.  However, it turns out that J.D. might have bitten off more than he can chew, and when he realizes his mistake, he attempts to trade songs to no avail.  J.D. also attempts to add his own arrangement to “We are the Champions”, which the band calls awful.  It will be interesting to see if J.D. again flies high or if he flops during the performance show.  ROCK STAR: INXS will air the next performance show on Tuesday, July 26 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS.

JD is the star ASSBLEEP of the show he needs to go along with his arrogant ego. he is talent but his cockiness is waaaaay bigger than his talent

I think JD just wants it really badly and I’m actually glad to see someone take this whole thing so seriously. I mean, like I keep saying, this isn’t American Idol. They’re not competing to just get a deal;they’re competing to take over for a dead guy. It is a serious competition that should be taken seriously. Also since, unlike AI,there is no second place(no Clay and Bo here) but only ONE winner who actually gets to join the band, the stakes are MUCH higher, so only someone with their eyes always on the Finish Line can cross it.

But,you know, really i wonder if it all even matters;at least for us,anyway. I have to kind of question the voting because after last night’s show,I was watching CSI Miami and I caught a Rockstar preview and it said something about how some choices were good(showing JD actually pulling off “We Are The Champions”) and some were bad (showing INXS telling one of the girls, I think Daphna, that she wasn’t right for their band). And then while watching The Price Is Right this morning, I caught another one of Suzie playing the harmonica. So I kinda have to ask myself, “Hmm…how did I see previews of the next two shows if this is supposed to be LIVE?” I guess that’s so much for the voting and I thought AMERICAN IDOL was rigged. JD or someone else probably won already, for all we’d know. But it’s still a cool show, though,so I’ll keep watching it anyway. But at least i know not to waste any more time voting:(.

The one to watch is Jordis Unga. She alone among the contestants sings with an angry edge to her voice, and cops an attitude without seeming affected. In short, she’s a rock star; the others are mere performers.

I guess I actually have to agree with ted tonight. Jordis rocked,as usual(she should be my favorite because she reminds me a lot of my idol,Ani DiFranco, but I’m just not sure if I could see her in a band with middle – aged men. I think she’s too cool for them,to be honest, and it seems they’d only hold her back),but everyone else seemed a little disappointing tonight; and i’m not sure if it was because they lost Neal or if they’re buckling under the pressure, or what. I was most disappointed by JD,though. I was hoping he could come out and do a really amazing performance and show that he could walk the walk as well as talk the talk, but i feel as though he really let me down tonight,so I don’t know. I’d hate to turn on him, since it seems like i’m the only one defending him, but I really wish he would’ve let Jordis keep the song or begged MiG to sing it.I know HE could’ve done it. It would’ve been nice if JD could’ve pulled himself together (it was kinda sad to see him get choked up like that, though. I guess maybe he’s not really as hard as he lets on.I only wish he’d show more of that side…) long enough to pull the song off, though, but…

I’m still confused about seeing previews of the show. I think I misunderstood the one, though, because JD didn’t make a very good choice either, but after tonight,I think it is Daphna who’s supposed to go home tomorrow night. JD will most likely make it in the bottom 3,but I actually hope he does because if he comes close to getting booted,it might bring him down a notch and make him a little less cocky and a little more focused. And,who knows, maybe he could make a comeback and blow everyone away next week…but I won’t hold my breath…

I don’t wanna diss JD too bad because I actually kinda feel for the guy and he was at least brave enough to TRY to do a Queen song, but he honestly made me realize just how good Constantine’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” really was. HE should’ve been on THIS show (and Bo too). MAN!!!
