American television viewers are about to discover why Johnny Vaughan is a household name in the UK, and one of that country’s favorite comedic forces on TV and radio. His quick wit and extensive television experience make him a natural fit for his American debut, hosting "My Kind of Town." He’s also a huge fan of the U.S. and its multitude of small towns, ever since first traveling across the country in his youth.
Vaughan’s big break in television came in 1993 when he was tapped to do movie reviews for the series "Moviewatch" on British Channel 4. His irreverent humor impressed audiences and, in 1997, he moved on to host the UK’s most popular morning talk show, "The Big Breakfast." The following year he was nominated for a National Television Award for Most Popular Entertainment Presenter.
In 2001 Vaughan joined BBC TV, where he wrote and starred in several sitcoms and entertainment shows, including "’Orrible," "Johnny Vaughan Tonight," "Live at Johnny’s" and "Passport to Paradise." In addition he hosted a sports show entitled "Superstars."
He ventured into radio in 2003 to host "Fighting Talk," one of BBC Radio’s sports debate shows, and the following year was tapped to host "The Breakfast Show" on London station Capital 95.8 FM, making it the dominant morning radio program in the UK’s toughest market. Vaughan will be racking up the frequent flyer miles this summer, jetting between the London radio gig and tapings of "My Kind of Town."
Vaughan married his wife, Antonia, in 1999, after 13 years together. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with Antonia, their two young children, Tabitha and Rafferty, and their beloved bulldog, Harvey.
