Big Brother fans everywhere let out a collective moan as Howie Gordon utilized his power as head of household to toss the game away. His secret partner Rachel Plencner probably summed it up best when she said, “I seriously didn’t think he was going to do something that dumb.” Whether fans were for or against Howie and his alliance, it was just painful to watch seomeone make such a crucial error in playing the game.
After the brilliant strategic move pulled off by Kaysar, Howie and Rachel were in prime position to be the final two. All Howie and Rachel needed to do was string James and Sarah along long enough to finish off the self-named “friendship” team. Then they could have teamed with Janelle (and Kaysar or Michael if one of them returns) and finished off James and Sarah.
But the “friendship” team manages to work their magic on Howie and convince him that the entire house will be a less divided place if he nominates James and Sarah. What does the “friendship” team promise Howie for putting up James and Sarah? They guarantee him two weeks of safety. In fact, not even the entire “friendship” team makes the promise, as Maggie points out that she will honor the deal but can’t guarantee what other members of the “friendship” will do. Somehow, Howie thought this was a good deal.
Now, it’s not that James didn’t deserve to be nominated. He obviously will switch sides at the drop of a hat if it will keep him in the competition longer, but he was also the biggest target of the “friendship.” As long as James was in the house, Howie and Rachel were assured of not being the primary target. Howie has just helped the “friendship” get one step closer to eliminating him by nominating two members of his own alliance.
Howie has taken what was an alliance of five and turned it into an alliance of three. Howie has handed the numbers advantage over to the “friendship.” If James winds up going, then Howie should consider himself and Rachel to be the primary targets of the “friendship.” The “friendship” will likely not consider Sarah a threat and they will want to take out the last surviving partner team on the opposition. Howie made his decision based on anger over James instead of making the best move for his team.
