American Idol’s Clay Aiken Voted Most Loved Reality TV Star of All Time In Bravo & TV Guide Poll

August 08, 2005 07:39 PM by Joe Blackmon

In a recent poll commissioned by Bravo and TV Guide magazine to determine viewers’ tastes regarding reality television, "American Idol’s" Clay Aiken is number one in the hearts of reality fans, while "The Apprentice’s" Omarosa is the most hated reality star. The Internet omnibus survey was conducted by TNS in conjunction with Bravo’s premiere of "Battle of the Network Reality Stars," the cable channel’s homage to the great 70′s original "Battle of the Network Stars." The series will premiere on Bravo on Wednesday, August 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. In addition, the results from the poll will be printed in the August 14 issue of TV Guide magazine on newsstands on August 11.

"These are real people who allow the American public to experience their raw emotion and quirks as they embark on their own reality – taking us with them every step of the way," said Andrew Cohen, VP, Production & Programming for Bravo.

"Love it or hate it, reality television is here to stay. Reality stars have made their mark on the pop culture landscape, and they won’t be leaving any time soon," says TV Guide Senior Editor Rich Sands. "This poll is a fun tribute to the best and worst of the genre—the villains, the heroes, the drama divas–and ultimately a celebration of the very reasons we all keep tuning in."

Following are highlights from the Bravo/TV Guide Poll results:

Clay Aiken (35%) barely edged out fellow "American Idol" contestant Kelly Clarkson (34%) as the most loved reality star of all-time, with half of those polled agreeing that Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth of "The Apprentice" is the most hated.

Viewers and readers have officially spoken – when it comes to entrusting a reality star couple to raise their child, an overwhelming 54% trust Nick & Jessica, over more experienced parents Whitney & Bobby, Sharon & Ozzy, and the expectant couple Britney & Kevin!

When asked to choose which reality series they would be a contestant on, 31% of respondents would sprint to get on "The Amazing Race," but only 17% feel rosy about "The Bachelor"/"The Bachelorette."

Richard Hatch would have a tough time surviving in dodge ball, with 42% of people taking aim at him first. Wendy Pepper from "Project Runway" would remain fairly unscathed with just 13% pummeling her with the dodge ball.

"American Idol’s" William Hung is the most deserving of his own TV series according to 31% of respondents. But, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth of "The Apprentice" should simply stick to her day job.

"America’s Next Top Model" Brittany Brower and "The Swan’s" Rachel Love-Fraser are favored 37% by respondents to drag each other through the mud in a tug o’ war match-up. Only 18% want to see duo Charla Faddoul and Mirna Hindoyan from "The Amazing Race" duke it out.

The Bravo/TV Guide poll was conducted among 1,000 adults ages 18+ from July 14-15, 2005.

Why wasn’t Kathy Griffith on the most hated poll? She would have beat out Omarosa by a country mile.

Clay Aiken is the most talented Man to come along since Sanatra, Elvis, Bing, Manelow, Celine, it’s his voice and his heart..as well, a truely gifted performer…that will be around a long time…Thank You, p.s. one has to see him perform live, to appreciate the full force of this Man..CLAY…..

I have to say by a really random odd chance – I’ve recently had the opportunity to work with Omarosa and I have to say – you’d all be very disappointed to find out SHE’S REALLY REALLY NICE. I have found her to be sweet, caring, generous and completely reasonable.

I also met Jerri Manthey at a Survivor party and she was THE NICEST ONE THERE!

Now if i meet Johnny Fairplay or Richard Hatch and they’re nice too – i’ll know it’s the sign of the apocolypse!

Clay is a great singer and entertainer. You just have to see him in concert and you’ll be amazed. We all just love him.

This poll definitely got it right. Clay Aiken is the best singer to come around in a looooooong time. To watch him in a live show is to love him. Great job Clay! Way to go voters!!!

Clay Aiken is the best all-around entertainer to come along since Elvis and Sinatra! He is not “Just a singer”. He is a true entertainer, and generous to a fault with his back-up singers and band. They all have a good rapport and a good time together. This cannot be faked!. The JukeBox Tour has something for everyone. This is not the shy young man we first saw on American Idol 2. This is a very grown-up Clay who knows what he has to offer and gives it with confidence and class!

I was happy to read that Clay was voted the most beloved reality star. He truly deserves the admiration. Not only is he a great singer, he has traveled to Banda Aceh and Uganda, Africa on behalf of UNICEF. Also, he has generated much needed awareness toward integrating children with special needs into all of the programs available to children without special needs. I was also very happy to see that Kelly Clarkson was the most popular female reality show contestant. She is a great singer (had three hits on the Billboard Charts at the same time!) and seems like a really sweet young lady. Best of luck to both of them in their careers. They both deserve to do well. As far as the negative stuff in the article….well, I just don’t want to go there. Most of these reality shows speak for themselves.

Clay is a man of incredible talent and class. He has grown immensely in both during the last 2 years and is a credit to his craft. Not since the legends of past and present years can we say we have had any extraordinary talent. But Clay is it – the real deal and in time will become a legend himself. He stays true to himself and never bows to the pressures of LA and all that it entails. He’s honest and you can’t ask for more than that. Adelexx

For once a poll that finally got it right!Yes, I’m talking about voting Clay Aiken as most loved realilty star. I’m surprise how close it was to Kelly Clarkson though. As far as personality goes, he has got it all over her. Her concerts are just that. No interaction with the audience. Not so with Clay. He connects and make the audience feel good and so glad to be there. Clay rules!!!!!

No doubt in my mind – Clay is awesome! But if I had voted in that poll it would have been for Anthony Fedorov. You won’t find a nicer, more caring and loving person.

If you are a Clay fan…no explanation is necessary!
If you’re not.. no explanation is possible!
Clay has it all and he REALLY deserved to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy that Clay and Kelly were the most loved people on all reality! They deserved it! I am also happy that Omarosa was the most hated person on all reality. American Idol rocks and Apprentice sucks.

From his powerful melodies to his charity and work with UNICEF I have to wonder if there is anything Clay Aiken can’t do! He has this amazing light about him…Everytime he stands to sing it gives me chills. I am proud to say that I am a fan of “American Idol” and that is largely because of him. I am so impressed by this man and really admire him!
