So You Think You Can Dance – A Sentimental Favorite Goes Home

September 07, 2005 11:03 PM by Joe Blackmon

Snow Urbin, Melody Lacayanga, Allan Frias and Ryan Conferido are the four contestants up for elimination on the Wednesday, September 7, 2005 episode of So You Think You Can Dance.  Nigel Lythgoe praises both female dancers saying Snow is “possibly the best performer on the show” and Melody is” possibly the best technical dancer on the show”.  Nigel adds “the only loser tonight is this show” because one of them will be going home.

The judges have a little more decisive option when it comes to the male dancers.  Mary Murphy feels that Allan did not crossover as well as some of the other dancers in the show.  Allan Frias was a long shot coming into the competition.  He was one of the few heavy dancers to make it through the early rounds, and the only heavy dancer to make it to the sixteen finalists.  Allan Frias received several compliments from the judges in regards to his personality, but he often struggled learning new dance styles.

Lauren Sanchez informs Snow that she will be going home on the girls’ side, and she informs Allan that he will be going home on the boys’ side.  Lauren also tells Melody that she received the highest vote total and can select who she does not want as her partner.  Melody selects Jamile McGee as the partner she doesn’t want to dance, giving the reason that he is too tall of a partner for her.

Each dance team gets two performances.  The dance teams are Melissa & Artem, Kamilah & Nick, Melody & Ryan, Jamile & Destiny, and Blake & Ashle.  After both performances, the judges select Melody & Ryan and Jamile & Destiny as the bottom two couples.  The crowd is shocked by Jamile & Destiny’s nomination because their second performance was probably the best performance of the show.

Seriously, I`ve only watched clips of the show, but it seems like everyone is always crying. I haven`t even seen people on Idol cry that much-not even Paula. These guys really need to get a grip!

This show needs a makeover. C’mon. Make it fair. Have the couple all dance the same style so you can see who excells, and change that style from week to week. Also don’t chose the worst couples but the worst individual dancers. That would at least make it fair.

There’s no remedy for this turkey. When I saw the lardass queen Alan Frias dance, and then realized he wasn’t voted out the 1st week, I knew this show was a loser. Bad as he was, the truth is NONE of those dancers are very good. The judges don’t seem very knowledgeable or likeable either. But the worst, most laughable, aspect of the show is the overblown drama-mode everyone, including the judges, go into when it’s eviction time. My god, don’t these people have lives outside this competition? Olympic athletes who have trained all their lives don’t cry and ham it up to this extent when they miss medaling. Give me a break.

I like the show. Really enjoy the dancing. However, I cannot stand the judges. They ruin the show and I have quit watching. Lets change the rules and the audience votes off a judge each week!
