ABC’s "My Kind of Town" will celebrate Deep River, CT on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET). Recently about 200 residents of the town were brought to New York City to tape an episode of the show, hosted by British TV and radio sensation Johnny Vaughan.
aWhat evil lurks in the laundry room of a Deep River mom? Will the bonds of friendship survive the temptation of a new automobile when three "best friends" play "Three-Car-Monte"? Will a Deep River hair expert win the cow of his dreams by spotting which of his old friends wears a rug? And will one townsperson crack under the pressure of trying to win a fantastic prize for every one of her neighbors in the audience?
"My Kind of Town" is a relentlessly energetic primetime studio show in which real American people, in all of their imperfect and awkward glory, have the chance to become the stars of their own show for one memorable night. Each week a lucky handful of residents selected from among the townspeople in the audience will participate in individualized comedic games and gags for prizes tailored to their own lives, interests and needs. One person from the group is chosen to play the big end game, where they will shoulder the burden of either winning or losing a huge prize for the other audience members – all of whom they will see every day for the rest of their lives. No pressure!
"We selected these small towns from a field of hundreds, because we instantly fell in love with them and think our viewers will too. These towns have unique qualities and extraordinary, memorable people that we believe will transcend universally," says executive producer Michael Davies ("Who Wants to be a Millionaire").
This variety/comedy hybrid promises big atmosphere and energy, emotional wish-fulfillment, unexpected twists, laugh-out-loud comedy and the occasional celebrity. "My Kind of Town" is produced by Pressure Productions, a joint venture between Embassy Row LLC and Monkey Kingdom Limited. Executive producers are Michael Davies, David Granger and Will MacDonald and co-executive producers are Janine DiTullio and Kelly Kimball.
Update: ABC has made a last minute programming change and will not be airing this episode tonight. No information is available on when or if it will be aired.
