Lewis Family On Extreme Makeover Home Edition

November 27, 2005 12:01 AM by Joe Blackmon

"Lewis Family"–"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and the entire community of El Segundo, CA will come together to rebuild the home of police officer Bruce Lewis, his cancer stricken wife, Paulita, and their children, airing in two back-to-back episodes, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 27 (7:00-8:00 & 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

One year ago, like many Americans, the Lewis’s took advantage of the low interest rates and took out a loan to improve and expand their small home. Progress was slow and shoddy. Then the heavy winter rains came, damaging and eventually caving in the roof, which destroyed all of their furniture and personal belongings. When Bruce confronted the contractor, the contractor abandoned the project and left town with $40,000 of the Lewis’ money. Bruce, Paulita, Erin and Hunter were left stranded at Bruce’s mother’s apartment — all four of them living in one tiny bedroom.

Bruce is a well-known, well-respected police officer in El Segundo, and the community was eager to help this man and his family. As they struggled to rebuild the house, they received the most horrific news — Paulita had cancer after discovering a lump in her neck.

The entire town of El Segundo has come together to help this family, and they are making slow progress on the house. But they can’t do what "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" does in a week, which is to give this mom the peace of mind that only a home can provide, so that she has a greater chance at recovery.

While local builder Taylor Woodrow, hundreds of workers and volunteers, Ty and the gang transform the Lewis’ house into a dream home, the family will go on vacation at Walt Disney World.

In addition, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks lend a helping hand and play hockey against the design team and builders, while standup comedian Robert Schimmel, also a cancer survivor, makes ‘em laugh at a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and ESPN sportscaster John Anderson also drops by.

The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" features team leader Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo, Michael Moloney, Constance Ramos and Daniel Kucan.

I also wonder how Paulita’s doing now since the show. I know the makeover was done from Sept 6th – Sept 13th as I was there for some of the makeover and reveal. I hope she is doing better with the new house and everything. They definately deserved it. It was heartbreaking to see them go thru so much and I’m keeping them in my prayers. It was great to see them smiling at their new house. God Bless them.

Hi my name is Sophia Mondello I am 10yrs.I have a sister Renata she is 13yrs..My Mom and Dad got divorced about three years ago and my Dad tries to do everything right for us as a single parent. He always thinks of us befor he thinks of anybody else.He takes care of my Nana in our house. He’s always thinking to do something better for us like to take us on family vacations. It’s too hard for us to get away as a family. He works so much that he’s always is talking a bus R.V. If I had the money or a way to buy my Dad this we think he will be the happiest person on the earth. My Dad watches your show everytime. When we watch the show he says “move that bus right into our driveway”.He can’t get a bus RV because he tries so hard to keep our house up and running. We love our Dad so much and we see what he has done for us at 42yrs.And we dont want anything happining to our father and we think this will make him feel so much better. Thank you for listening Sophia and Renata Mondello.
