The VH1 Big in ’05 Awards proves to be a treat for reality TV fans. From beginning to end, the show is packed with skits, performances, and awards featuring reality TV stars. The first award is actually given out before the show even starts. J.D. Fortune and INXS receive the Big Old School Triumph Award on the red carpet.
Actor and comedian D.L. Hughley hosts the VH1 Big in ’05 Awards, and he starts off the show by acknowledging two reality TV stars in the crowd: Bobby Brown and Jessica Simpson. In reference to Jessica and Nick’s recent separation, D.L. Hughley jokes that they are splitting everything 50-50, adding “He gets the house, and she gets the career.”
Jessica Simpson and Kevin Federline are both nominees for the Big Stylin’Award, and Jessica Simpson wins the award. In her acceptance speech, Jessica Simpson talks about getting “emotionable” and thanks her mother for teaching her how to match her scrunchies with her socks.
Laguna Beach’s Kristin Cavalleri and Lauren Conrad introduce Rock Star: INXS winner J.D. Fortune and INXS, who perform their hit Pretty Vegas. A reality themed comedy skit called Dancing with the Star Wars pokes fun at ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. In the skit, a trainer ask R2-D2 if he can do anything besides the robot.
Bobby Brown gives a short performance on stage with the Gotti Boys. Bobby and The Gotti Boys introduce the nominees for Big Reality Star. Tommy Lee, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Bo Bice, and Danny Bonaduce are all up for the award. Bo Bice wins the Big Reality Star. (We wonder if Bo Bice would have believed it if someone had told him two years ago that he would one day be on stage accepting an award that he won over Tommy Lee?) After accepting the award, Bo delivers one of the nights most hilarious acceptance speeches saying, “I think I know the guy right now who is in the most trouble tonight. I have a bounty hunter. I have Danny Bonaduce. Tommy Lee please don’t kick my ass when I leave here tonight. Because I really don’t know what to say. I’m a big fan of all those guys.” A shirtless Danny Bonaduce then comes skateboarding up and gives Bo a menacing look before the two wind up hugging.
More than forty reality stars sing in a segment called “Artists United For Reality.” American Idol 4 Finalists Anthony Fedorov, Jessica Sierra, Vonzell Solomon and Nikko Smith provide the lead vocals for the song. Some of the lyrics of the song include “we are the stars of reality”, “best decision of our lives”, and “we’re just like you.” Reality stars from shows like Survivor, The Biggest Loser, Big Brother, The Bachelor and America’s Next Top Model also sing in the background. Jonny Fairplay moons the crowds during the song.
Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Kristin Cavallerri are up for the Big It Girl Award, but Lindsey Lohan winds up winning. The Hogans introduce the Big Feud Award nominees, which includes Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. However, Paris and Nicole lose out to Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.
American Idol 1 Winner Kelly Clarkson is up for Big Music Artist, but she loses out to Green Day. “Tyra Banks proves her breasts are real” is up for Big Shocker Award, but she loses out to “Michael Jackson gets acquitted.” During a skit near the end of the show, Dog the Bounty Hunter tackles and cuffs Danny Bonaduce.
