The Survivor Guatemala finale starts off with the four remaining survivors participating in a Mayan ceremony. During the ceremony, a chicken’s head is pulled off, and the chicken is tossed into a fire. Stephenie LaGrossa’s first thought is to get Lydia Morales to ask if they can eat the chicken. The Mayan tribe says no that it is a sacrifice to the Mayan gods. Later, the survivors retrieve the burned chicken and all of them except for Rafe Judkins take part in eating it. After the survivors eat the chicken, there is a massive thunder storm, leading them to wonder if they have angered the Mayan gods.
Jeff Probst describes the first immunity challenge as the most complex Survivor maze ever constructed. Jeff Probst tells the survivors that not all the areas of the maze contain a puzzle piece and that it’s up to the survivors if they are loud about it or try to conceal it when they find a piece. However, that doesn’t turn out to be completely true, because Probst announces several times when the survivors find a piece, ruining any hope they might have of concealing their find.
Rafe is the first to retrieve all his puzzle pieces from the maze and complete his puzzle. However, Rafe’s immunity challenge win should have come as no surprise to Reality TV Magazine readers. Thanks to a reader tip, Reality TV Magazine was first to report that CBS’s preview of the Survivor finale revealed that Rafe Judkins won the first immunity challenge.
The final immunity challenge involves balancing on a skateboard-like platform. Rafe is the first eliminated from the challenge. Stephenie hangs on for awhile, but she is the second eliminated. Stephenie breaks down in tears after she falls in the challenge, prompting Rafe to make an Ian Rosenberger type move. Even though Rafe had an agreement with Danni that she would take him to the final two, Rafe tells Danni that he is releasing her from her promise and that she can take anyone she wants to the final two.
Danni Boatwright makes the most of Rafe releasing her from her promise and selects Stephenie to go to the final two with her. The decision proves to be a wise one as many of the former survivors have grudges against Stephenie. Probably, none more so than Judd Sergeant who delivers one of the angriest jury speeches since Susan Hawk in the first season of Suvivor.
Judd asks Stephenie if she is still starving, making fun of how much Stephenie ate during the competition. Judd then tells Stephenie that the only thing she should be starving for is his vote. Judd also tells Stephenie that she crossed the line when she lied to his wife.
Danni Boatwright wins Survivor Guatemala, and she apparently wins by a near unanimous jury vote. Jeff Probst only reveals one vote for Stephenie before revealing four votes for Danni and declaring her the winner.
