Survivor Winner Is Danni Boatwright

December 11, 2005 11:53 PM by Joe Blackmon

Danni_boatwright_winsThe Survivor Guatemala finale starts off with the four remaining survivors participating in a Mayan ceremony.  During the ceremony, a chicken’s head is pulled off, and the chicken is tossed into a fire.  Stephenie LaGrossa’s first thought is to get Lydia Morales to ask if they can eat the chicken.  The Mayan tribe says no that it is a sacrifice to the Mayan gods.  Later, the survivors retrieve the burned chicken and all of them except for Rafe Judkins take part in eating it.  After the survivors eat the chicken, there is a massive thunder storm, leading them to wonder if they have angered the Mayan gods.

Jeff Probst describes the first immunity challenge as the most complex Survivor maze ever constructed.  Jeff Probst tells the survivors that not all the areas of the maze contain a puzzle piece and that it’s up to the survivors if they are loud about it or try to conceal it when they find a piece.  However, that doesn’t turn out to be completely true, because Probst announces several times when the survivors find a piece, ruining any hope they might have of concealing their find.

Rafe is the first to retrieve all his puzzle pieces from the maze and complete his puzzle.  However, Rafe’s immunity challenge win should have come as no surprise to Reality TV Magazine readers.  Thanks to a reader tip, Reality TV Magazine was first to report that CBS’s preview of the Survivor finale revealed that Rafe Judkins won the first immunity challenge.

At tribal council, Lydia Morales is voted out.  Stephenie LaGrossa, Danni Boatwright, and Rafe Judkins then pay tribute to the previously eliminated survivors by burning their images.

The final immunity challenge involves balancing on a skateboard-like platform.  Rafe is the first eliminated from the challenge.  Stephenie hangs on for awhile, but she is the second eliminated.  Stephenie breaks down in tears after she falls in the challenge, prompting Rafe to make an Ian Rosenberger type move.  Even though Rafe had an agreement with Danni that she would take him to the final two, Rafe tells Danni that he is releasing her from her promise and that she can take anyone she wants to the final two.

Danni Boatwright makes the most of Rafe releasing her from her promise and selects Stephenie to go to the final two with her.  The decision proves to be a wise one as many of the former survivors have grudges against Stephenie.  Probably, none more so than Judd Sergeant who delivers one of the angriest jury speeches since Susan Hawk in the first season of Suvivor.

Judd asks Stephenie if she is still starving, making fun of how much Stephenie ate during the competition.  Judd then tells Stephenie that the only thing she should be starving for is his vote.  Judd also tells Stephenie that she crossed the line when she lied to his wife.

Danni Boatwright wins Survivor Guatemala, and she apparently wins by a near unanimous jury vote.  Jeff Probst only reveals one vote for Stephenie before revealing four votes for Danni and declaring her the winner.

It never fails to floor me that people are petty and childish. Stephanie was clearly the better player. Dani admitted as much herself. Sour grapes is the only excuse that I can come away with as to this result. Once again, just as in Austrailia the better player in the game takes second simply because the jury members feelings are hurt because they got “Outwitted, Outlasted, and Outplayed”.

Also since I am a Kansan I should have wanted my homestate gal to win this survivor. But I just can’t get around the fact that my homestate gal just didn’t deserve it!

Well, reading this page has surely saved me watching the show for another 2 hours! Thank god that Stephanie did not win. She was the most cattie person I have ever come across and certainly did not deserve to win! I think I will just continue watching just to see her have an attack of the sookie la la’s!

Todd – you are a smart man.

Stephanie didn’t do ANYTHING WRONG – she played the game the best it can be played – she worked so so hard in the challenges – even Rafe said Stephanie played the same game as he did. She could not have played the game any better or different – and I agree the jury was just ‘pissed’ because she outplayed them – so they were too childish and would not be expected to vote for the BEST player. You did GREAT Steph!!!

Some of you are missing the point.

In order to win survivor, you must assess the characters of the people who you are playing with. You have to figure out if they will vote for you because you played hard and got rid of them systematically, or played soft and got to the finale based on an honest, fair-game strategy.

Stephenie did not win because she failed to make the right assessment. This particular cast were not going to vote for someone who stabbed them in the back… some other survivors in previous episodes would, but not here.

So by not making that assessment, Steph ended up losing to the person who didn’t stab anyone in the back. The reason why she was crying after the last immunity was because she knew she couldn’t beat Danni… that’s when she lost the game. Her plan was to win that immunity (or let Rafe win), and duke it out with him in the final. Her plan failed coz Danni won, where she made the decision to remove Rafe and whoop Steph in the final vote to become the SOLE SURVIVOR!!!!!

Steph was a cry baby! Way to go Danni!! who woulda thought she woulda come out on top after watchin all her former tribe fall one by one after the merge, the better player truly did win and those who dont see Stephanie as a cry baby me me me type person are truly blind! Cant beat a chik who enjoys a good tailgate party! Great Game Danni! If Steph had outwitted outlasted and outplayed everyone she would have won… but she didn’t… and damn Danni looked good at the reunion, who’d a thunk it?

Wow! That finale was amazing…I liked Danni from the very first episode and wanted her to win and she did. She definately had an advantage at the final immunity challenge…being a tall chick gave her that advantage. Thank god Steph did not win the 1 million. She’s a tough cookie but not tough enough. She was such a baby when she started to cry. Poor sport right there too…she new she was losing the immunity as soon as she started to go down. Danni did what she did in the game to stay in and was the last one standing even if it wasn’t enough she still got the 1 million.
Congratulations Danni for winning the million. Danni is so beautiful.

First of all, i would like to mention that Danni is simply gorgeous at the reunion. I mean, she looks totally different in Guatemala when she was playing the game. Well, Danni and Steph deserves their place in the final two no doubt. But Danni played her cards well. Luck also contributed a huge part. Danni’s strategy, especially during the last few stages of the game, was simply outstanding. But credit to Steph too. She has done well. Cheers.

Well, the wrong person definitely won this time. The jury didn’t vote for the person who had played the best game, they voted for the one who hadn’t hurt their feelings. How pathetically short-sighted.

Anyway, I heard that Steph actually got two votes, Rafe and Bobby John. Can anyone confirm whether this is true or if Steph really only got one?

Either way, she was robbed. Steph is the sole Survivor in my eyes.

Why did the nice, athletic, thoughtful smart person win? The person who cries when she doesn’t get her way should win.

In Stephenie’s defense, I watched every episode this season and only saw her cry like that ONCE … last night (Dec 11). It’s not fair to define her by that when it only happened once. Plus she was obviously in great pain at the time, I think I’d've been crying too. Steph had a great attitude.

I wasn`t suprised at all when
Danni won. It was just that a lot of the others were still sore that she played the game in just the right manner that she was able to vote them out. Probly the only one who actually admitted to being mad was Judd and I somewhat respect him for that- even if he was rude and fairly hypocrytical about it. Danni didn`t actually start playing the game until she realized that she might be going next. The people who are calling Steph a cry baby for what happened last night are just bullies who like to pick on someone who became emotionally and physically exhasted. Also, does any one know what all of the votes were? I`d hate to think that Rafe was the only one who voted for Steph.

  17. steph Says:
    December 12th, 2005 at 9:05 pm

steph was the bully. Danni was nice and still played the game well. Rafe voted for Steph because he was bitter at Danni. The rest of the jury voted for Danni because she deserved to win. Nice to have a nice person for a change.

  18. RHatch Says:
    December 12th, 2005 at 9:10 pm

Danni was playing the game well from the beginning, she was just more subtle. also mentally stronger than most.
Steph sauntered through most of the 39 days because everyone was so star-struck. she kept saying the target was always on her back, then why didn’t she compete in that immunity challenge, instead of eating a feast in front of Danni who competed very well that day. Bobby jon and Brandon were better competitors than Steph, they just had bad luck with numbers.

  19. Adam Says:
    December 13th, 2005 at 1:32 am

Stephanie lies and lied. The lack of even a tiny bit of shame. “I swear to God” she said to Bobby Jon on Palau, admittedly a nice but not the sharpest pencil in the South. She lacks integrity and for that alone, I am relieved that she did not win. Telling lies can be part of the game but she tells lies too easily and without any thought in her somewhat shallow brain. Danni was way too smart for silly Staphylococcus.

wow Ron, where did you read that Bobby jon voted for Steph?… í really like to know how many exactly voted for Steph.. she’s always been my favourite and i really dont think “star-struck” is the word to describe the other survivors feelings towards steph… Steph was clearly neither a cry baby nor a bully… wait until you are in her position, experience it and see how’d you like it to be called that… if i were Rafe, i would have voted for Steph too and it’s out of friendship… it’s ridiculous if he had voted for danni whom he just got close towards the end of the game…

There is no way anyone can say Danni played the perfect game. She made plenty of mistakes, including voting off the strong Blake after the switch. They lost all challenges after that and then the numbers went against her. But when it came to crunch time, she delivered. Made an important move allying with Rafe, and won two challenges when she needed them the most.
CBM hit the nail on the head, Steph was naive if she thought that she was going to get her tribe member’s votes at the end.She just did not think long term in this game. And her biggest mistake was voting off Lydia.
Gary played extremely well, but it was never going to be enough.

Anyway Congrats Danni. You didnt play well all the time, but you did when you really had to and are a deserving winner.

Stephanie fucked 4 members of the jury over, she played a dirty game….danni definatly played better..she didnt need to fuck anyone directly…thats all steph did..they way she played the game there is no way she could have won…even lydia would have beaten her…and they way she acted when lydia got her out of that food challenge and on the first couple of days when she found out jamie was thinking of voting her out….her holier than thou attitude was so unappealing…she definatly did not desearve to won….i think rafe played the best game..steph thought she had him in the palm of her hand but rafe had her under control…if only he didnt pussy out at the end..he let his feelings take control…bottom line steph is the most annoying survivor ever to play the game

steph was always an entertaning and intelligent player. the more i saw of her the more i thought what a great date she would make-excellent blend of brains, athleticism, attractiveness. the vote came down to popularity and sentiments of betrayal. Danni was kinda ho hum, not the total package steph was. What was that weird waistline danni kept exposing- it looked weird-she was too thin and had this oddly hper flared out waistline-not attractive. Steph is a hot piece of ass. She also looks great in her island hat.Too bad the most intelligent and competitive honey didn’t win

Ok to all the Dani fans- you need to take into consideration that Steph played back to back Survivor games- so after that how would you feel? Tired emotionally and physically- which generated the tears. The jury was sucking sour grapes. This was a game people not a freaking popularity contest. By all rights Steph should have won just on the fact that she “survived” two games, and made it to the top two. Dani screwed the last people over (including the last of her tribe) and rode the coat tails of the prior ones. Since when has that been “playing” the game? Steph walked in with a huge target on her back and still made it to the top two. Oh and if I remember correctly all the people who were on the jury were kissing her butt from the beginning, and just because she out smarted them well, they are walking around with a wedgie up their collective butts.

    The true Survivor didn’t win…
