The Apprentice Martha Stewart is down to the final three candidates: Bethenny, Dawna, and Jim. Martha Stewart introduces several executives from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia: Susan Lyne, Jonathan Chernes, Gail Towey, and Margaret Roach. The executives interview each one of the candidates individually.
The executives provide feedback to Martha Stewart based on the interviews. Martha calls the three candidates into the conference room and recaps the executive’s feedback on them. Martha tells Bethenny that the executives felt that she was entrepreneurial but might lack focus. Martha tells Dawna that the executives felt that she has the best management experience but she might not surprise them. Martha tells Jim that on the other hand that he might have too many surprises in store for them.
In perhaps one of the most bizarrely edited conference room scenes of all time, Martha Stewart’s voice keeps changing tone, and there appears to be a disconnect between what she is saying and how Jim reacts. Martha tells Jim, “While I like someone having a creative spark, you’re a loose cannon and you’ve managed to alienate a lot of your teammates.” Martha Stewart then tells Jim, “You played it your way, and now I’ll play it my way. The game’s over Jim. You’re out of here.”
Martha Stewart assigns Bethenny the final task of running the "Apple & Eve presents The Big Apple Circus" and Dawna the final task of running the “Liz Claiborne Fashion Show & Charity Benefit.” Bethenny and Dawna each select three former candidates to assist them. Bethenny selects Ryan, Carrie, and Jim. Dawna selects Amanda, Sarah, and Howie.
Jim sums up Bethenny’s selections by saying, “Bethenny had really decimated Carrie in the conference room, and yet she was asking Carrie to be a member of her team. Bethenny had never worked with Ryan, yet she was asking Ryan to be on her team. Those two choices made very little sense to me until I realized that Bethenny has no friends.”
Both Bethenny and Dawna appear to struggle with their events. Dawna has to deal with Howie drinking the night before the task, and Bethenny has to deal with Carrie still harboring resentment over how Bethenny stabbed her in the back in the conference room. The Apprentice Martha Stewart finale will air on NBC on Wendesday, December 21, 2005 from 8-10P.M. ET.
