Apprentice Winner Randal Pokes Fun Of His Decision On Radio Music Awards

December 20, 2005 12:07 AM by Joe Blackmon

Randal_santaBetween awards and performances, the 2005 Radio Music Awards includes a couple comedy skits involving reality TV stars.  The funniest skit involves recent Apprentice Winner Randal Pinkett.  In the skit, Randal pokes fun at the controversy surrounding his answer when Donald Trump asked him if he should hire Rebecca also.

The skit involves Santa Claus (played by George Wendt) conducting a boardroom type conversation with Apprentice candidates Randal and Alla.  Randal talks about his experience running five businesses and his impressive academic credentials, while Alla points out that she started out as a stripper.  Upon hearing that Alla use to be a stripper, Santa Claus immediately tells Randal that it’s not going to work out and hires Alla.  As Alla goes and sits on Santa’s lap, Randal asks Santa, “How about hiring us both?”  Santa replies, “Randal pal, this is not the elves, this is the elf.”

Randal and Alla aren’t the only reality TV stars in comedy skits on the Radio Music Awards.  Survivor Winner Danni Boatwright also appears in a similar skit involving Santa Claus.  In the skit, Danni thanks Santa for all the wonderful presents over the years. Santa Claus then starts talking about a new Corvette, and as Danni says she’s just a simple girl that doesn’t need that, Santa explains that he’s talking about himself and that he’ll take it in red.

Yet another reality TV skit involves Matt and Suzie from The Biggest Loser.  Suzie is doing a workout which has Santa’s full attention.  Matt interrupts to tell Santa that Suzie is his girlfriend now, but only since he lost 157 pounds, because “she’s just not into fat guys.”

Trying to joke about it doesn’t make it right – your attitude about it was the key, Randall.

Allah …. you are proving to be the slut everyone already thought you were anyway.

oh shut up you sound like a pathatic loser she lost people. Trump had no right asking him to share. Next time you win something share with the runner up even thow they were 1 hour behind. Doesnt make since does it. And Trump said if he would of picked her he would of had to split is winning’s in half now that is not fare. What is not fare is that this was the best contestant on this show and he has now been pegged as the guy that didnt take Rebbeca with him

Anyone who supports Rebecca supports mediocrity. . . she was riding on Randal’s coatails the entire competition and if she had not been sacrificed by Alla, she never would have made it to the finals. Randal, on the other hand, earned his wins through hardwork, integrity and intelligence, was 3-0 as project manager, 4-0 if you consider that Rebecca didn’t raise a dime. . . anyone supporting Rebecca has turned this into a race thing. I doubt if Rebecca was black anyone would be upset. Viewers who didn’t like Randal were jealous of his education and professional accomplishments. Trump would be stupid not to hire someone like that into his organization, much less meet someone like that. Randal can generate Trump money someday and I see Rebecca in the form of a trophy wife, like Melania, more than a self made billionaire. As far spelling, some of us aren’t secretaries, we run organizations and hire good people. The anti-Randal comentators would never survive in the business world. Why should Randal share his win with someone who is not in the same league with himself, in fact, there were very few in the competition that were worse than Rebecca. He was the Michael Jordan of the Apprentice competition. Maybe Michael Jordan should give up his wins to less qualified and less proven players just to be nice. Competitors know when to be diplomatic and when to go in for the kill. If he’d shared the title with Rebecca I would have called him a quitter and after 13 weeks of interviewing that would have really let me down because quitters a) never win and b) never become Rhode Scholars and get 3 degrees from the most competitive university in the United States. Randal, your a star. . . let your haters be your motivators. Your teammates throughout the competition always respected you. You’re a class act Randal.

Trudie you are absolutely correct. Randal was head and shoulders above anyone else in the competition. Rebecca at 23 years old has about two years work experience and Randal has run five companies and has five scholastic degrees from the best universities. Not only did Randal win 4 competitions as project manager, he was on the team and the reason for Rebecca’s win. The whole competition, no one ever had a negative thing to say about Randal except the one time Rebecca lied to Mr Trump about Randal and he forgave her, then helped her win a competition. It would have been very stupid and weak of Randal to share the Apprenticeship with her.

Someone tell me what is it about Rebecca that justifies calling her true “competition” to Dr. Pinkett. She was 1-2. He was 3-0 on the show. She has a BA degree from an average college, University of Chicago. He has 5 degrees including 3 from one of the toughtest colleges in the world, MIT. She has 2 years work experience. He has 13 years experience as an entreprenuer, the most recent ventures is a multimillion dollar consulting firm. She broke an ankle that heals. He lost a grandparent FOREVER. Why all the sympathy for such a below average, sub par, barely out of college simpleton? Also, Trump boasts about her loyalty to Toral. Yet he said nothing of Kwame’s loyalty to Omarossa? Double Standards. He also fired 4 people for not rising a dime of money, and he acts kind to her after she raised NOTHING for charity! Had Dr. Pinkett been white, and Rebecca been black, this would not even be a conversation right now. Funny what race believes in handouts now.

Let me say it first. I think definitely Randal was a better candidate of the two. However I do not think Rebecca is far off considering her age.

So much was said about Randal helping Rebecca for the final win. What about Rebecca helping Randal in the win before? Remember they only one by 5 votes. Rebecca was the first one who suggested about grabbing the microphones. If not, I do not think Randal would have the guts to do so. Another point, when they got some Spanish speaking temps, Rebecca stragtegically sends them to Spanish speaking residents. What would have happen if she was grumbling like Alla and Felisha. Rebecca knew how to take opportunity. Had Rebecca not done both the things, Randal would have definitely lost. And he would have definitely got fired then.

And do not forgot about the Star Wars Episode. He was the only one in the team who could make the changes since he was the only one who knew Star Wars. But he didnt. He didnt make any effort to do anything. Rebecca on the other hand, step up and presented.

And for the XM episode, he was clearly way out. He put a terrible picture on the poster, he didnt bother to double check the channel number. Sure you would say, why didnt Rebecca check on it. Well, Rebecca trusted Randal having 5 degrees would know how to check for a channel.

So to conclude, Randal was not a perfect star either. He too had his downs.

However, I think this whole Apprentice affair is an insult to Randal. Apprentice means teaching a novice. Randal isnt a novice. He is already successfull 35 years old mand and with 5 great academic degrees and loads of experience with him He should not have gone through this Apprentice Interview, he should have just be selected before.

On the ohter hand, Rebecca is just 24, probably with 2 year experience. She is the right candidate for Apprentice, since she is just starting to learn about business deals.

    DISFORTUNE

YOU ran a marathon and were the first to cross the line after a grueling race. Be it a slim margin of victory or a large one, how would you feel if the rules were arbitrarily changed to get your approval of the second-place finisher receiving an equal gold medal. Now imagine that marathon lasting your whole life. Competition is inherently discriminatory but the rules should be fair and consistent. Every metric showed that the man from Jersey (Randal) was superior to the lady from Minnesota (Rebecca) albeit some myopic viewers refuse to acknowledge this fact. Let me innumerate.
    1) Randal was, by far, better educated
    2) Randal was, by far, better experienced
    3) Randal had a flawless record and more than equally contributed to Rebecca’s only win
    4) Randal actually produced charity for a CHARITY EVENT. This should not be overlooked – if this challenge had taken place 3 weeks earlier would there have been any question to Rebecca’s firing. Donald might have fired her whole team all over again for good measure.
    4) Randal had a hostile charity delegate that eventually was, herself, won over by his heart, professionalism and equanimity.
    5) Randal also stood up for a weak candidate (Markus)- he voted for his exemption the first week and verbally supported him in another boardroom debriefing (Lamborghini challenge) -the only one to do so.
    6) Randal’s altruism was showcased when he was determined to assist Rebecca to her sole and only win. He said this in unequivocal terms.
    7) He earned the love and support of virtually all of the candidates early on in the series. He maintained this support and admiration throughout a competitive environment. This alone speaks volumes of his value and charisma.
    8) Randal was prescient. “I cannot see why you would not pick me to be your sole and only apprentice” he said early-on during the finale. This was meant to relay his strong belief in his win. (This was most likely why Donald deferred to him at the end of the show).

These points are incontestable and provide ample proof of his triumph. Accolades (a lesser win) must be extended to Rebecca but not at the expense of a triumph (greater victory).

As to Randal’s response to Donald’s inappropriately timed query -which effectively diminished the win while the victor had yet to set his arms down from a well won victory salute. The question should have never been asked in the first place.

Do I believe they were both qualified. Yes. Do you believe they were equally qualified…. see above.

As for Alla, she is no laughing matter. Murder by cold hearted manipulation is not funny to me.

The object of the game in the apprentice is for Trump to select the person who might learn enough from his organization to become the next Trump. That does not disqualify Randal. Randal has yet to become a billionaire, the fact that Rebecca has potential to become a Randal means that when we look at her in ten years and she has the work experience, education, and track record of success under her belt, she could then compete to be “The Apprentice.” Very few people have the “potential” to be billionaires and just because Rebecca is young, don’t assume that she is a better choice to be an apprentice. Using that logic almost any “average” young person has the “potential” to be an apprentice to Donald Trump. Donald Trump is definitely not average. He needs someone who is definitely not “average” to have the “potential” to be his apprentice. Rebecca wasn’t even “average” compared to the other competitors so I don’t see why she should have been chosen for the apprentice. I’ve never seen a interview for any job that doesn’t want someone with a track record of success, which Rebecca did not have. You Rebecca supporters must have extraordinary low standards. She is pretty though, I’ll give her that.

I saw all the episodes of the apprentice. My conclusion Rebecca was in the final 4 just for luck. She did not have respect for any of her woman teammates. Except for Toral and you know why Toral. That is why she decided to choose 2 guys that did not know her record to much and Toral. The ladies know her much better that those guys because they have many task with her. The only Winner is Randal. And by performance the next one is Alla. Trump he was just making to much deal with a broken foot come on ! I think anyone of the show will do the same thing that Rebecca because they all wanted the job. Trump says she is Loyal with Toral for me this is just being to emotional and it is not good for business.

I am white male. I am Very disappointment with Trump to chose Rebecca for the final . He was emotional just feeling sorry for her broken foot………….. There were much better candidates for the Final 2 and he knew it. That is why the final 4 did not have any INTERVIEW otherwise Rebecca will be gone from the beginning and not even be in the Final 2. And the worst thing she Raise NO money for the final task Come On!!! What the heck he wat to hire a loser! Trump that is not right. You lose my respect

  21. jan Says:

This whole thing with Rebecca reminds me of Trump’s fixation on Amy in Season 1. What solved that problem was the interview session where the final 4, of which Amy was one, were interviewed by Trump’s top executives. They all UNAMIOUSLY trashed Amy and said she was totally FLUFF. One of them even called her a “Stepford Wife!” Even Trump’s executive assistant chimed in to deliver her criticism of Amy! It was hilarious.

For all of Trump’s brilliance in business, he has a thing for the pretty ladies and it affects his judgement. Sometimes his own staff have to step in to put a stop to it.

The only reason that Rebecca got to the final 2, despite her losing record, was sheer luck because – 1) There were no interviews with Trump’s execs this season (guess why) and 2) Trump went on a firing rampage and fired all of Randal’s real competition.

Rebecca didn’t even deserve to get as far as she did. She was 2nd by default, and a DISTANT 2nd at that. She should be glad. Get over it.

  22. ken Says:
    December 21st, 2005 at 2:49 pm

Sure, Rebecca can say she would have hired Randal. She can say anything she wants AFTER THE FACT. However, since she LIED to Randal during the XM task about who she was going to label a weak player in the boardroom and then LIED to Trump about Randal’s performance on that task, I don’t believe for a moment that she would all of a sudden become so sweet and allowed Randal to share in her UNDESERVED win had the tables been reversed.

Did you see the look of betrayal on Randal’s face after the XM boardroom? He said that’s when he learned about Rebecca’s deceptive nature and from then on he knew better. Notice that afterward, during the Microsoft task when they were the only 2 players on the team, that Randal still kept it above board and helped his team (i.e. Rebecca) to win. Class act.

Rebecca is unethical, conniving and incompetent. She got to the finale out of luck & pity and she’s still playing the pity strings.

Congratulations to Randall on his very well deserved victory. Frankly I think Mr. Trump may have lost his mind for a minute, to even think of asking Randall such an inappropriate question… heck the man was still celebrating his victory with fellow teamates, and Mr. Trump felt he had to take the spotlight away from him. If he liked Rebecca and her “loyalty” that much he couldve called her after the show to offer her a job. And I’m so glad Randall refused to share the prize, cause that may have been the last time we’d ever hear his name mentioned. Rebecca, as a beautiful white woman would’ve definitely overshadowed him or his outstanding credentials. Randall was by far more qualified than Rebecca from his education to his record on the show. He was a star from the beginning to the end… Rebecca won only one challenge, on which Randall helped her. I find myself wondering why Mr. Trump felt that Randall should’ve shared his prize. Why wasnt Bill asked to share his prize with Kwame? or the other winners asked to share. What an insult to Randall, especially when this runner up didnt even measure up. Randall keep your head up, you are a true winner!!!

It saddens me that Randal’s clear and decisive victory has been tarnished by a decision which was the correct and right one for him to make. Donald Trump can hire whomever he desires. He does not need Randal’s assistance or input. What Trump wanted to do was to have a co-Apprentice and give Rebecca the second job opportunity in New Jersey. This would have diminished Randal’s win and put Rebecca on the same footing as Randal when clearly she was not the winner, but the runner up. This win was to be Randal’s opportunity. He won the job fair and square, overcoming the adversity of a loss of a grandparent AND disparaging and untrue comments made about him by Rebecca in the Board room. Rebecca lied about Randal and he was STILL a team player when she was the PM.

The fact that people would say that he was unprofessional ignores the very true fact that he deserves to enjoy the benefits of the win soley and exclusively.

Randal made a good call in a tough situation. He did what I know that I wish I would have done in the same situation. He had the presence of mind to think in his best interests in a calm and professional manner. He was forced to stop his celebration and make a tough call that got him some boos in the end. Trump should be ashamed for putting Randal in this spot. He destroyed the joy that Randal should now be feeling as The Apprentice.

    Rebecca’s supporters are so stupid…
    1) Why would Randal be threatened by such a poor performer as Rebecca? She lead as PM on 4 tasks (including the finale) and the only task she won was due to Randal (1-3 record). Randal was undefeated at 4-0.

2)Rebecca has backstabbed Randal more than once, most notably in the boardroom after the XM radio task. She tells him beforehand that she’s going to label CLAY the weakest player and then flips in the boardroom and says that Randal was the weakest and should be fired. She clearly intended to broadside him in the boardroom. SHE was trying to get rid of her toughest competition. Notice that even after that when he had to work with her on the Microsoft task in a 2-person team, that he still kept it above board by helping his team (i.e. Rebecca) to win. Randal is a class act all the way.

    3) She didn’t raise a penny for her charity in the finale! She says that Randal doesn’t see the big picture, yet she MISSED the big picture that the purpose of the event was FUNDRAISING. Even Trump said that the charity was the client.

    4) The only one to stand up for her at the finale was Toral. Randal had the respect of most of the cast.

So let me see…After rightfully winning, Randal should have helped a lying, backstabbing, loser like Rebecca (that couldn’t win even one task without his help) to get a job that would have been equal to his? I’d have kicked that incompetent beeyootch to the curb too. Selfish? You are ridiculous!

You’re obviously in some fairytale land. In real life, you don’t help incompetent backstabbers to land a job of any kind, never mind a plum 6-figure job the same as yours. You might do that stuff for FRIENDS!

Basically you’re saying that if Randal had done what you wanted, everyone would be happy? I’m glad he stood up for himself. Better to be talked about because you’re strong than because you’re a weak pushover.

In the past, all apprentice candidates got job offers – even the losers. For heaven’s sake, even that witch Omarosa still has job offers coming out the wazooo 2 years later. So, it’s no surprise that Rebecca has received job offers. However, because she is inept, she will get herself in a big job and flounder like a fish out of water.

Just 5 five cents. If Randall said yes to Trup’s question whether he should hire them both, there would be no controversy.

So the only issue I see here is a lack of class on Randall’s part. I will not bother trying to pour hot coals on him or Rebecca when it comes to their performance because they were both winners to make it this far.

And if you are from Asia, you will know that having luck is a strength and it often comes with opportunism, which is indeed Rebecca’s strong point as she s quite streetwise. Remember the maxim: Luck favours the bold?

Arguments will persist over Randal’s decision, but it is a FACT that he was far more qualified. If Rebecca hadn’t been on Randals ream she wouldn’t have lasted longer than Alla or Felicia. But, it is a gross exageration to say that the complaints are being made on account of Randal’s ethnicity. The arguments were just as hot over the most recent Idol winner, a case where two very white americans were running. The fact is, thousands will claim that Michael Jordan isn’t the best, despite what the facts say. People believe what they want to believe.
So to all who believe that Randal is being questioned on account of his race. Believe what you will, but you are what you believe you are. African Americans, as proven by Randal, can be equally qualified and successful and have the same opportunities as anyone else. So don’t do Randal a disservice by calling him the underdog or the poor minority. He wasn’t hiding behind his ethnicity when the competition was on.

Randal has the right to diminish Rebecca. Watch back the episode of XM Cafe and how Rebecca injected toxic dose into Randal’s performance in board room, and you will not surprise on Randal’s judgement to have only one apprentice.

By the way, Rebecca should not be the runner up, Alla is the one.

Rebecca said that Randal does not look at the big picture. In the final task she dint raise a single cent.
For Gods sake, raising money was the big picture but she entirely missed it.
The season finale was much ado about nothing.Trump would not even have thought twice if it was Randal who had not raised money.
Randal,go for it-you have a bright future before you.
