In between plugs for various products, Martha Stewart manages to select her first Apprentice. Her first Apprentice will also evidently be her last and only Apprentice since NBC isn’t renewing the show (or never planned it to be more than a one run series). Martha Stewart hosts the Apprentice Martha Stewart finale live from the set of her daytime TV show.
Bethenny Frankel and Dawna Stone are the final two candidates, and the finale starts off by showing how they did on their final tasks. Dawna is in charge of coordinating the Liz Claiborne Fashion Show. For some reason though, Amanda appears to be responsible for doing most of the work on the project. Amanda is so overloaded that it leads to problems in getting the brochure for the fashion show completed.
Even though Carrie complains that Bethenny hasn’t assigned them projects, Bethenny winds up pulling everything together. Bethenny succeeds in transforming a gritty nightclub into a circus. Bethenny meets Martha Stewart at the door and escorts her into The Big Apple Circus party. Bethenny pulls off an impressive event without a single hitch. However, Jim does express frustration that after all their hard work that all they got from Bethenny was a lukewarm handshake as she drove off into the sunset.
Dawna also greets Martha Stewart at the door when she shows up for the Liz Claiborne Fashion Show. Martha appears to be impressed by the fashion show and keeps making comments like “that’s a nice skirt.” Charles Koppelman is really impressed with the models making the comment “hubba, hubba.” The Liz Claiborne executives tell Dawna that she put on a great show. Dawna shares hugs and tears with her team members.
In the final conference room meeting, Martha Stewart brings up the programs saying she was very impressed with The Big Apple Circus program but the Liz Claiborne people were not happy with their program. Dawna blames the program problems on the Liz Claiborne executives wanting to make last minute changes. Dawna says Bethenny rubs people the wrong way, while Bethenny says that Dawna doesn’t have that special thing. Dawna tells Martha that she wants the job so much that she can’t communicate it.
Bethenny and Dawna join Martha Stewart live on the set of her daytime show. Martha Stewart asks her Chaiman of the Board Charles Koppelman and her daughter Alexis Stewart for their opinions. Alexis says that if you want to know what she really thinks then you’ll have to tune into her radio show. Martha Stewart speaks briefly with the other candidates and expresses that she thinks Jim must be an actor (which is probably what most viewers believe as well). Martha also brings up again that she didn’t think that the Liz Claiborne executives were pleased with Dawna’s work.
Martha asks Bethenny why she found it unnecessary to praise her team. Bethenny says that she did thank them, but she had a difficult time because they were a little disgruntled and didn’t want to be there. Martha asks Dawna if she lacks overall vision. Dawna points out that at the end of the day even her biggest critic came up and said she pulled it off.
Martha says “Bethenny, you’re spunky, you’re a show-off, you feel that you have to make a physical impression which is really not terrible necessary at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Dawna, you are clearly a talented manager and we can always use someone with your business acumen at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, and I would like to offer you the job of my Apprentice.” Martha tells Dawna that her job will be working at Body + Soul magazine. As part of her job, Dawna will receive a $250,000 executive salary, and she also wins a brand new Buick Lucerne.
