The Gauntlet – Ruthie Please Don’t Go!

January 17, 2006 06:43 AM by Joe Blackmon

The episode starts off with Beth talking with David.  David says "I think you’re doing a fantastic job this time.  We all know the legacy of Beth on these shows."  Beth says "My reputation kind of precedes me, but this time I’m minding my own business and trying to stay out of trouble.  I really am hoping that I stay around and actually get a chance to compete and possibly win this one."  Beth and David continue to talk and laugh.  David explains "I’m definitely going to keep Beth at an arms length and watch her closely, because she’s definitely going to pull something.  It wouldn’t be Beth if she didn’t pull anything."

Alton gets a text message saying “Have you been pulling your own weight?”  Katie reads the rest, “Meet us at Dwight York stadium at 9:30AM. “  Susie asks "Do you dread the mission for girls or do you get hyped up?"  Ruthie replies "I don’t necessarily dread them.  There’s just a lot of pressure there."  Kina says she already goes into the mission prepared so if they lose she’s ready to go.  Beth and the girls are talking about what the mission is going to be, and Beth hopes it’s a running mission because she loves to run.
The first challenge is called Rickshaw Races.  There are two rickshaws set up, one for each team.  Each team member has to go around the track once with the rickshaw, while two members are in the rickshaw.  The teams strategize over who is going to run first and who is going to stay in the rickshaw.  Montana and Beth get into a huge argument about who should sit out and who should run.  Ruthie intervenes and decides that Beth is going to run and Montana is going to stay out.  Kina is up first for the rookies, and David is up for the veterans.  David plans ahead to get a huge lead over Kina and does so.  Ibis says "I get a little nervous because David takes the lead, that’s not a good way to start our challenge today."
David pulls way ahead and wins the first run.  Robin is next up for the veterans, and she lags a little and starts to walk.  The rookies have Alton up there, and he runs like a bat out of hell and pulls ahead of Robin.  Beth is up for the veterans and actually runs it hard and pulls ahead of Jillian on the rookies.  Julie is next and runs it to the finish line.  The end lap for the rookies has MJ running like a champ with a good lead ahead of Mark for the veterans.  MJ gets the win for the rookies.
Montana comments  "Honestly, I didn’t even want the exemption for myself.  I just didn’t want Beth to get it because she just sucks at being  a person."  Kina is excited about winning the Best Buy $1000 gift card and says “What am I going going to buy?”  They go back to the house and deliberate who is going to go into the Gauntlet with Ruthie.  Ruthie says "I just want what the team wants."  Beth pleads her case and says she stepped up to the plate in the challenge today.  The team still decides to put Beth in against Ruthie.  Ruthie spins the wheel and it land challenger’s choice.  Beth smartly picks the reverse tug of war challenge.
Beth says" I can’t believe the team voted me in, that was the stupidest thing they could of done."  They come to the gauntlet and TJ asks Beth if she is ready and Beth says “I don’t want to do this.  My team is not behind me.”  TJ says “Come on Beth don’t give up you know how I feel about quitters.”  Beth steps up and they start, and Beth is just too much weight for Ruthie, although Ruthie fights like a warrior.  The unthinkable happens and Beth beats Ruthie and becomes team captain.  Beth says "Okay, I’m like the last person that anyone would ever think to be team captain, and there’s no one on my team that can beat me so good luck ladies.”
Montana comes up to Beth and trys to make ammends and says she doesn’t want to fight with Beth anymore.  I wonder what brought that change of heart into play?  Beth reconciles with her, and they move on.  Then Beth makes a throwing up gesture.  Ruthie says goodbye to everyone.  Derrick says "That wasn’t a smart move on our part."  Beth continues to gloat in her win and becoming captain and asks all the captains to have a toast.  Beth says "If your gonna **** with me I’m gonna **** you harder.  If the girls team loses again Montana your ass is mine and I can’t wait to send you home.”  Then we see Beth lying down on the captains bed, and she says "This is a nice bed."

Funny episode tonight, I can’t believe Beth is actually team captain and I don’t think the veterans can believe it either.  I have to give Beth credit though she did good in the mission and held her weight literally.  Veterans are crushed to see Ruthie go home but they will have to continue on with Beth as captain until someone takes her out.  Montana lets see what you can do!
