Back in September of 2005, Reality TV Magazine reported on rumors that Van Halen could be one of the rock groups under consideration for Rock Star 2. Of course, we were just reporting on speculation, because at the time it wasn’t even confirmed that there would be a second season of Rock Star.
In October of 2005, MTV (via Realityblurred.com) took things a step further and reported that Van Halen would be the rock group searching for a new lead singer if the Rock Star series continued. However, MTV quickly deleted their original story and ran a correction stating that Van Halen would not be the next Rock Star band. The band’s spokesperson reportedly told MTV that the band would not be participating in a second season of Rock Star. MTV also clarified that when it originally reported that a spokesperson had said no comment regarding pending projects that spokesperson was never asked specific questions regarding the band’s involvement in Rock Star.
Now close to four months after MTV’s report and correction, TMZ.com is reporting that Van Halen might really be the band for Rock Star 2 after all. TMZ.com cites unnamed sources as telling them that “Van Halen is in the market for a new lead singer, and the marketplace will be the upcoming reality show Rock Star: The Series.” TMZ.com also quotes a publicist for Van Halen as saying “I’m not denying it. I’m not going to answer any questions about it.”
Update: In what shoudl probably come as no surprise at this point, TMZ is now reporting that Van Halen’s spokesperson is "vehemently" denying that Van Halen wil be part of Rock Star.
