Doug Hall: American Inventor Judge
March 16, 2006 12:03 AM by Joe Blackmon
Doug Hall is one of four judges on ABC’s American Inventor. Doug Hall began his inventing career at age 12, inventing and selling a line of magic and juggling kits. After earning a chemical engineering degree from the University of Maine, he joined Procter & Gamble, where he rose to the rank of Master Marketing Inventor – inventing and shipping a record nine innovations in 12 months.
Hall is the founder and CEO of the Eureka! Ranch, located in Cincinnati, with offices in London, UK and Monterrey, Mexico. The Ranch is an "invention & research think tank" that specializes in igniting bold thinking on new products and services for corporate clients such as American Express, Ford, Nike and Walt Disney. It seems to work – the Ranch has a world-class 88% client repeat rate, and surveys indicate the average American home uses 18 products or services that Hall and his team have invented or reinvented.
Dateline NBC described Hall as "an eccentric entrepreneur who just might have what we’ve all been looking for… the happy secret to success." His signature dress includes bold shirts, blue jeans and bare feet. But under the carefree clothes and playful attitude is a life member of MENSA and the world’s leading expert on how to measurably increase your odds of success with ideas, innovations and inventions. He’s a one-of-a-kind straight shooter who helps people reach beyond their comfort zones to achieve more than they dreamed possible.
Hall donates a great deal of his time, talent and money to help entrepreneurs turn their dreams into reality. He’s one the country’s top speakers on innovation and is the author of four books on creativity and courage. His book, Jump Start Your Business Brain, was a No. 1 national bestseller and named to the prestigious Independent Bookseller’s Book Sense 76(r) list of America’s greatest books. He’s also a columnist for Business Week SmallBiz, hosts the "Jump Start Your Brain" daily advice feature on 400+ radio stations and co-hosts "Brain Brew Radio," distributed by PRI, where he helps "American dreamers and doers win more, lose less and make more money."
In recognition of his success, innovation and his research contributions, Hall has been awarded an honorary Doctorate, the George Land World Class Innovator Award, the YMCA Character Award and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

It looks like Doug’s inventions are restricted to toothbrush design and a child proof cap design that I have never seen. It has a lever device from what I can tell.

Doug Hall is the most obnoxious person i have seen in a long time. It is because of him that i can not stand to watch the show. If he was not on the show i would watch it, i find the remainder of the judges intelligent, charming, and respectful.

I consider myself to be very lucky to be a part of the American Inventors show. I’ve had the opportunity to see the show for the first time, and I must say, I am happy that I did not have a product debut 10 years ago, when the product was coming into being. She has underwent several cosmetic makeovers and numerous name changes, all for the sake of research and development.I believe timing is everything, and, I am truly thankful that my product wasn’t showned as it existed during those earlier product development stages. I seemed to have been spared the public humiliation that so many of my family of inventors had to face. I want them to know that, I hurt with them. I hurt with you for various reasons, not only that, many of you were scammed by the invention companies that bilked thousand of dollars out of you, but the greater crimes occured by those who knew about this, and went on to put a dagger into the backs of those who had already been wounded. I say to you to continue with your dream, but be practical, and exercise good reasoning judgement..listen to a good friend, and take breaks in-between. Only abandon your ship when you have exhausted all options…if someone appears from nowhere with offers to help, it is meant for you to continue your journey. Good luck to all of you, inventors around the world..Jerry

At least if hall was there you might see real inventions. Because you have to be an actor to get on the show.
