Taylor Hicks Tops The BillBoard Hot 100 Chart
June 22, 2006 07:03 PM by Joe Blackmon
This year’s American Idol winner Taylor Hicks has rocketed to the top of Billboard’s coveted Hot 100 chart with his first single, "Do I Make You Proud" released by 19 Recordings Limited/Arista Records on June 13. The single simultaneously came in at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the Billboard Single Sales chart and the Billboard Pop 100 chart making it the best selling song in the country with over 190,000 copies sold in its first week of release. Hicks will perform this chart topping song on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday, June 22nd.
"I’ve been a hard working musician for the past ten years trying to become the best singer and harmonica player I could be and I’m thrilled that I can now focus entirely on my music," says Hicks. "Having a number one single is only the beginning.”
"Do I Make You Proud" was sung by Hicks during the American Idol 2006 finale on May 24th in Los Angeles and also includes his soulful rendition of the Doobie Brothers classic, "Takin’ It To The Streets," from the American Idol Season 5 Encores CD. Taylor Hicks is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and was recently named People Magazine’s Bachelor of the Year. Hicks is currently rehearsing for the "American Idols Live! Tour 2006!" that kicks off on July 5th in Manchester, NH and is preparing for his debut album set for release this fall.
"Do I Make You Proud" marks the fourth "American Idol" single to provide financial support to the mission of the American Red Cross and the people it serves. Sales of the past three recordings generated more than a quarter million dollars in donations. For every CD sold, $0.25 will go to the American Red Cross, as well as $0.15 for every digital download sold, and $0.20 for every ringtone and ringback.

Sorry you feel that way FL. Taylor proved himself from the beginning. He belongs on top. He belongs on the cover of PEOPLE. We did not buy into anything. In otherwords, you are saying the whole entire country was Taken in. WRONG….But I am glad you are happy for him.

Listening to Kat’s music reminds me that I should be at a funeral. Now she has a eating disorder – please!! Go cry on your 41 year old boyfriend or daddy who is a Fox executive.

I don’t understand these negative comments about Taylor and Kat. I’m proud of both of them. Taylor is my favorite and I think his talent and personality will carry him to stardom. Heck, he is already a star!
June 24th, 2006 at 12:29 pm
Taylor is the winner and reason for it is he is “hot”.
Just watch his performances and see the audience scream & listen to some old Elvis songs. Taylor & Elvis sound so much alike.
Anyone have the result totals on the last show of top two?
If you liked the loser that is fine, you can support her album. In other words, put your money where your mouth is. (And also spell check your grammar!) I bought Taylor’s single and simply love it, also the “Peoples magazine”, where Tay is nominated #1 hottest bachelor, and I daily check out all sites on internet about him.

first of all, a lot of kat fans said he wasn’t even going to sell one tiny bit. and now that he’s number one, they say kat’s gonna sell so much more? you’ve already been proven wrong by saying taylor isn’t marketable. and where did you get the sales of katharine’s cd? i keep searching everywhere and the only chart i’ve seen her my destiny cd is on amazon and that’s even number 50 or 60-something.
why can’t you just be happy for the guy? kat can do singing or acting and has a lot of connections. she’ll make it one way or another. so stop dissing taylor. these people work really hard.
June 25th, 2006 at 5:15 pm
Yea I guess Taylor’s alright but Kat’s soooo much better I mean its obvious shes a way way way better singer and shes defentially way way way prettier!!!
June 29th, 2006 at 10:37 pm
Why can’t everybody just be happy for both of them? I might not like Kat, but I won’t put her down. I just don’t like her style of singing. Taylor on the other hand is the one for me. I love everything about him. I just see it this way, some people like him, some don’t. It’s the same for Kat. Just let it be and appreciate and support who ever you like. Please stop all the nitpicking!!!

GO TAYLOR!!! HE ROCKS SO HARD.. HE IS GOING TO DO SO WELL AS WE CAN ALL SEE FROM HIS FIRST SINGLE!! HE IS ORIGINAL, NOT A COOKIE CUTTER POP STAR!!
