Is Treasure Hunters Changing The Rules For The Brown Family?

July 10, 2006 09:53 PM by Joe Blackmon

Keithbrown_hurtOn last week’s episode of Treasure Hunters, the Brown family was able to re-enter the hunt when the Grad Students were forced to drop out due to a knee injury to one of their team members.  On this week’s episode of Treasure Hunters, Keith Brown tears a muscle and is carried away in an ambulance, but due to an unusual twist in the game it looks as if the Brown family will be able to continue on and even benefit from Keith’s injury.

Teams started this week’s episode by racing to the Atlantic Avenue Tunnel in Brooklyn, New York.  The only entry to the tunnel was through a manhole on Atlantic Avenue.  Teams searched for a message from Walt Whitman which led them to a flag that revealed that the next destination was Georgetown, South Carolina.  Host Laird MacIntosh told teams that there was a $30,000 treasure hidden somewhere before the next elimination.

In Georgetown, South Carolina, teams traveled to the Beneventum plantation that was the birthplace of the “Don’t Tread On Me” flag.  Teams found a quilt that had a map that would show them the way if they followed the drinking gourd (a song).  The swamp journey appeared to be one of the most grueling tasks ever on a reality TV show, and Kayte Fogal flipped out screaming that she didn’t want to do this anymore.

To complete the map, teams are told by Host Laird MacIntosh that they must leave one team member behind while traveling in a boat that will only carry two team members.  Teams can either leave their third team member behind for the rest of the hunt or return for them and face a three hour delay.  The Fogal family initially decided to leave Kayte behind in a tear-filled moment between mother and daughter, but eventually changed their minds and returned for her.  Ex-CIA completed the map first and won the $30,000 treasure.

The episode ended with Keith Brown being whisked away in an ambulance for a torn muscle, while the remaining two members of the Brown family vowed to carry on.  Unlike the Grad Students who were forced to drop out after a team member was injured, there appears to be a conveniently timed rule twist for the Brown family.  While it’s unclear what will happen on the next episode, it appears they will be allowed to continue on and might even escape the three hour boat penalty by leaving Keith behind.  Besides the situation with the Brown family, the other big question for next week is if the Geniuses will leave their teammate Sam behind because they feel he slows them down in physical challenges.

I agree. It’s not fair to bring eliminated teams back… the Browns should be eliminated and then the rednecks should be brought back. Fair is fair.

I think it’s fair. the Grads voluntarily left the competition, while the leave your team members twist must have been made up before shooting.

However, since the muscle torn happened before the twist, it is not fair at all. The casting sucks. They casted physically average people with an unbelievable gruelling task.

the show sucks. and the endless product replacements: “Hey guys we got a Motorola message.” make me wanna puke.

Love seeing the hot Southie Boys, though.
