One of the American Idol finalists was almost a no show for a visit with President George Bush, and no, it wasn’t Katharine McPhee. In the first group photo on the official White House website, only nine of the ten American Idol finalists are shown. The missing Idol is none other than third place finisher Elliott Yamin.
However, Elliott Yamin did not completely miss the photo opportunity with the President. A subsequent photo shows Elliott Yamin shaking hands with the President with a note that he arrived late to the Oval Office. So where was Elliott? According to People Magazine, Elliott Yamin overslept and had to rush down the hall to the Oval Office. People also reports that President Bush received several gifts from the Idols including a harmonica, a Soul Patrol t-shirt, and an Ace beanie.
After the meeting with the President, the American Idols performed at the American Idols Live Tour stop in Washington, D.C. According to reports from fans on the American Idol message board who attended the show, Katharine McPhee did finally perform. Because she is still recuperating from her illness, she was only able to sing two songs: Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. Katharine also reportedly apologized to fans for only being able to sing two songs and for missing the Pittsburgh show because of a flight delay.
