Is The American Idol Tour Cursed?

August 03, 2006 11:58 PM by Joe Blackmon

Bice_mcpheeOr perhaps the better question is “Is the American Idol Tour cursed for American Idol first runner-ups?”  Since the American Idol 5 Tour began, first runner-up Katharine McPhee has battled with bronchitis and laryngitis, delayed airplanes, and now a fractured foot.  According to the New York Post, Katharine McPhee tripped backstage before an American Idol Tour stop at the Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After the accident, Katharine McPhee went on to perform, but an x-ray after the show revealed that she had fractured her foot.  Even though the injury will create discomfort, the New York Post reports that Katharine will continue on and not withdraw from the tour.

Katharine McPhee is not the first second place finisher on American Idol to experience a string of bad luck with the American Idol Tour.  Last year, American Idol 4 runner-up Bo Bice battled stomach problems and ironically enough a broken foot.  Bo Bice broke his foot while performing on the American Idol 4 Tour in late July of 2005, but he also continued on with the tour.

However, Bo Bice did eventually have to drop out of the tour, because just about three weeks after his foot injury, Bo had a blockage in his intestines and had to undergo emergency surgery.  Given all the health problems and injuries suffered by Katharine McPhee and Bo Bice on the American Idol Tour, whoever finishes second on American Idol 6 might want to make sure to take all their vitamins and invest in some sturdy steel-toed safety boots.

To add to the bad luck, the cruise ship that Katharine helped christen, the Crown Princess, later got into a mechanical problem in Florida, nearly sunk, and injured passengers.

Personally, I think that Katherine McPhee has a great agent who is managing to find ways to expose her in ways that separate her from American Idol. Since she was able to participate at the White House and on The View and be on several magazine covers, I find it hard to believe that she has such “bad luck”. More power to American Idol tour without her. She appears to want to do nothing but promote herself.

    Holly you are right on!

Katharine has been on TV, interviewed by magazines and TV shows, and hasn’t exhibited any kind of laryngitis. This girl wants to break into TV or movies, not have a singing career.

This is such a shame because Chris Daughtery or Elliot Yamin deserved to be in the finals with Taylor, not Katharine.

I’ve never liked Katharine and she didn’t deserve to be a finalist. At the AI concert, I will be out buying souvenirs when she is singing.

Huh? Katharine and her agent caused the Crown Princess to nearly sink? Wow, her powers are stronger than I thought!

Did her agent break her foot? Or maybe you just think she’s faking this too! Yeah, since it happened off-stage they must be making it up for more publicity. I guess we should demand to see the x-ray! Although, they could always show us a fake x-ray. Oh, it’s such a conspiracy!!

How did she co-produce a play too on that time off she could not speak? How did she finalize the arrangements to have a hair care products line with no speaking voice on her time off? Seems to have accompolished a lot to further her career besides the photo shoot she reportedly did, guess she could pose and not have to speak on that one…hummmm! Poor Girl…rotten luck!
