American Idol was back in the headlines this week as the American Idol Tour turned bizarre. Katharine McPhee fractured her foot, which wouldn’t have been so unusual, except for the fact that she is the third American Idol first runner-up to suffer a foot injury on an American Idol Tour. The other big news on the American Idol Tour was actually the lack of news in regards to third place finisher Elliott Yamin getting a record deal.
Reality TV Magazine ran an article asking why Elliott did not yet have a record deal, and the story caught fire in the media. A couple days after we posed the question, the New York Post spoke with Elliott’s management and found out that he was currently entertaining offers. From there, the story was picked up in People and various other media outlets. People also reported that Elliott took time out to meet backstage with a fan who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Elliott seems to be one of the genuinely nicest guys ever on American Idol, and hopefully all the recent media attention will encourage those making offers to Elliott to sharpen their pencils and get a deal done.
Another big story in reality TV this week was the disqualification of a Project Runway contestant for a rules violation. Keith Michael getting kicked off the show turned into the highest rated show ever for Bravo. Look for contestants getting kicked off for breaking the rules to become a new trend in reality TV as the other networks take notice of what a little controversy can do for the ratings.
Another reality TV romance became public knowledge this week. MJ Garrett from the Real World and Mandy Weaver from the Real Gilligan’s Island have been dating for awhile, but the big news is that they are now expecting their first child.
The So You Think You Can Dance finale is only a couple weeks away, so the voting is hitting an all time high as the competition heats up. Going home this week were Natalie & Ivan. Other reality TV eliminations included Miss USA from Treasure Hunters, Michele Balan from Last Comic Standing, Sara from Hell’s Kitchen, Andre Eason on The Contender, Dana Andrews on Rock Star Supernova, Diane Henry on Big Brother, Bonnie Dominguez from Project Runway, and Cell Phone Girl & the Iron Enforcer from Who Wants to Be A Superhero. On America’s Got Talent, The Passing Zone and Celtic Spring advanced to the finals.
