"That lady just walked out of here with your hair on her head!” Sounds crazy, but you’ll hear that and more as Ellin LaVar and her staff of family and friends wax, weave, quibble and coiffe in the new WE tv original series Hair Trauma, premiering Wednesday, October 11th at 10:00pm ET/7:00pm PT. Set in LaVar’s New York City salon the six-episode true life series will capture all the highlights and lowlights of life in the hair business.
One of the most sought after hair designers in the world today, Ellin LaVar’s roster of clients includes Oprah Winfrey, Donnatella Versace, Farrah Faucett, Whitney Houston, Bono, Naomi Campbell, Kevin Bacon, Missy Elliot, Iman, Mary J. Blige, Venus and Serena Williams, among others. But according to LaVar she treats all of her clients as stars.
“I have clients from all walks of life and they are all celebrities in my eyes. My intention is that everyone who walks out of my salon will look like a star,” says LaVar.
With Hair Trauma, the public will get a birds eye view of the exciting and stressful life of this stylist to the stars and her staff of characters, including her former opera singer, brother, Jeffrey and fun-loving but trouble-making sister, Kim, who according to Ellin, mom made her hire. With three high spirited siblings working together, childhood grudges and family squabbles add to the drama at LaVar Hair Designs. But Ellin’s the boss and if they do not want to follow her plan, her advice is simple “Go to Mickey D’s and flip a burger!”
Between the blowouts, the cuts, missing hair pieces, clients with attitude, last minute surprise star arrivals and other hair-raising issues, there’s never a dull moment in her shop, and viewers will relate as Ellin is driven crazy by her well-meaning but often meddling siblings. Each 30-minute episode of Hair Trauma is produced by Red Moxie.
