TMZ.com reports on one of the more unusual rumors to start circulating about an American Idol finalist. TMZ.com credits a “well-placed source” with telling them that American Idol Runner-Up Katharine McPhee is one of the women up for the lead role in the big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman.
Joss Whedon, who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is the director for the Wonder Woman movie, and E! Online reported way back in May that Joss Whedon was one of the directors trying to woo Katharine McPhee for an acting role. Steven Spielberg was also rumored to be interested in talking to Katharine McPhee about possible movie roles.
While comic book fans might initially think of “From Justin to Kelly” and cringe at the thought of an American Idol finalist playing their favorite superheroine, Katharine McPhee actually has a strong background in acting. Katharine has starred as Anna Muir in “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” and as Annie Oakley in “Annie Get Your Gun.” The Annie Oakley performance even earned Katharine a nomination for an Ovation Award from the L.A. Stage Alliance.
In addition to her acting experience, Katharine McPhee also has another connection to the world of superheroes. Katharine’s mom Peisha McPhee had a role in the TV movie “The Incredible Hulk Returns.” With her acting background and her uncanny resemblance to Wonder Woman, the idea of Katharine McPhee landing a role in Wonder Woman might not be that far-fetched. Please post your comments below as to if you think Katharine McPhee would make a good Wonder Woman.
