For his reward for winning the fight, Sugar Ray Leonard gives Steve Forbes a large gold charm and a DVD player. Sugar Ray Leonard also gives Steve Forbes DVD recordings of his two fights so he can study them to improve. For the second fight of the second round of The Contender, Walter Wright boxes against Cornelius “K9″ Bundrage.
Both Walter Wright and Cornelius “K9″ Bundrage faced challenges growing up. Walter Wright never knew his father and his mother chose his stepdad over him. Walter was raised by his uncle, who was his father figure. K9 went through selling drugs, being shot at, and not having a dad. K9 says “If it wasn’t for God putting me into boxing, then I wouldn’t be here today. I would probably be locked up or dead.”
In the first round, K9 proves to be the more aggressive fighter, but the referee has to stop him several times for holding. In the second round, Walter Wright makes a comeback, but the round is very close. The referee threatens to take a point from K9 for holding. In the third round, Walter Wright lands several solid punches and has K9 against the ropes. In the fourth round, both fighters land several solid punches, but K9 appears to come out slightly on top. In the fifth round, both boxers seem to be doing more dancing than fighting, but again K9 comes out slightly on top. The winner by unanimous decision is Cornelius “K9″ Bundrage.
