Dancing With The Stars – Was Emmitt Smith Robbed By Bruno Tonioli?

October 24, 2006 09:02 PM by Joe Blackmon

Emmitt_cheyrl_robbedWith only five couples left on Dancing with the Stars, each coupled danced twice on tonight’s show.  Couples were challenged to show their skills in both a ballroom and a Latin dance.  In what proved to be one of the best nights of performances ever on Dancing with the Stars, the judges came just one point away from awarding a perfect score for three separate dances.

For their first dance, Jerry Springer and Kym Johnson danced the Fox Trot.  Len Goodman said “Most of the time you’ve danced your way, and tonight you danced the correct way.”  Bruno Tonioli said “It’s like watching Fred Flintstone turn into Fred Astaire in front of my eyes.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “I think you were lacking a bit of confidence.”  Jerry and Kym received a score of 24 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Jerry Springer and Kym Johnson danced the Mambo.  Carrie Ann Inaba said “You’re a joy to watch, but you’re not quite on the same page as everybody else’s level in this competition.”  Len Goodman said “You’ve brought so much joy and entertainment to this show.  I think you’ve done great.”  Bruno Tonioli said “It’s great to watch you.  You make us laugh.  It’s great to have you.”  Jerry and Kym received a score of 22 out of 30 points.

For their first dance, Monique Coleman and Louis Van Amstel danced the Quickstep.  Bruno Tonioli said “Stick to the rules, you can do it, that was sheer elegance.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “If you hadn’t stumbled that would have been a ten.”  Len Goodman said “It was bright.  It was light.  It was dynamite.  It was really, really good.”  Monique and Louis received a score of 27 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Monique Coleman and Louis Van Amstel danced the Paso Doble.  Len Goodman said “Monique, I think you’ve produced two great performances tonight.”  Bruno Tonioli said “You were very good tonight.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “It was filled with excitement and risk.  You did overpower yourself just a hair at the end.”  Monique and Louis received a score of 27 out of 30 points.

For their first dance, Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke danced the Waltz.  Carrie Ann Inaba said “I was mesmerized by your footwork.”  Len Goodman said “It was a great, great job.”  Bruno Tonioli said “On the crest of a wave..smooth, magnetic, elegant..the Lord of the Manor, the Lord of the Manor.”  Emmitt and Cheryl received a score of 28 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke danced the Mambo.  Bruno Tonioli said “Well Emmitt, the beast is unleashed.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “That was amazing, wonderful, powerful.”  Len Goodman said “Of every dance I’ve seen this whole season for me that was the best.”  Emmitt and Cheryl received a score of 29 out of 30 points.

For their first dance, Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff danced the Fox Trot.  Bruno Tonioli said “That was delicious entertainment.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “That was elegant, charming, and you were very relaxed out there.”  Len Goodman said “It’s the first time I’ve seen the Fox Trot without one heeled lead.”  Mario and Karina received a score of 29 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff danced the Jive.  Carrie Ann Inaba said “You guys were completely in sync.”  Len Goodman said “It had vitality.  It was fast.  It had fun.”  Bruno Tonioli said “It was another crowd pleaser from the great teaser, wasn’t it?”  Mario and Karina received a score of 27 out of 30 points.

For their first dance, Joey Lawrence and Edyta Sliwinska danced the Fox Trot.  Len Goodman said “You are a great ballroom dance.  I’ve got to just say though, as with Mario, no heels or balls.”  Bruno Tonioli said “I think that was a great tribute to a Hollywood legend.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “That was flawless.”  Joey and Edyta received a score of 29 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Joey Lawrence and Edyta Sliwinska danced the Mambo.  Carrie Ann Inaba said “I enjoyed watching it.”  Bruno Tonioli said “I loved your turns.”  Len Goodman said “Well, I was impressed Joey with your hips, because you really got your hips working.”  Joey and Edyta received a score of 28 out of 30 points.

While the judges saw fit to give out three scores of 29, the studio audience seemed to feel that at least one couple deserved a perfect score of 30.  After Bruno Tonioli denied Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke a perfect score by awarding them a 9, a chorus of boos rang out from the audience.  Host Tom Bergeron even quipped, “And by the way, the big question is which of our low paid staff members gets to start Bruno’s car after the show.”  So was Emmitt Smith robbed from getting a perfect score?  Post your opinion in the comments section below.

No doubt about it, Emmett was definately robbed of a perfect score.

Since when is it obligatory for Bruno to follow suit and award a 10 just because the other judges did? There are many times the judges do not follow suit, so why should there even be a question as to why? Emmit danced extremely well tonight and I hope the best for him because he really puts his heart into it. Getting a 29 was a great score. If there was anything unfair in this show, it was Willa getting the boot a few weeks ago when she was better than at least 3 others.

I really thought by this stage of the competition someone would have cracked the 30 mark. After watching tonight’s show I thought it would have been Emmitt & Cheryl especially after they received 10′s from the two notoriously tougher judges already. But then along came little Bruno to spoil the fun…Oh well, maybe we’ll have to wait for Mario to get that elusive perfect score to match his perfect dimples and moves!

Emmitt and Cheryl didn’t get a 30 for their Mambo, and last week Mario and Katrina danced a superb Mambo and didn’t get a score of 30 either.

I have been voting for Mario – and still think he is doing great! …. However, last night I gave all my votes to Emmitt. That man is giving his ALL to this competition!

1st & 2nd should be Mario and Emmitt!

    Sides:
Joey’s partner plans their dances the last few weeks around HIM supporting HER moves. You do not get to see him DANCE like Mario and Emmitt do.
Jerry – time to go dude BUT you did great last night – shoulda done that all along.

I REALLY THINK EMMITT SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A 30, HE WAS SO FUN LAST NIGHT, AND HE GIVES IT ALL HE HAS. I THINK JOEY DOES THE SAME THING. JOEY HAS GREAT BALLROOM DANCING MOVES, AS MARIO DOES TOO, BUT MARIO SEEMS LIKE HE IS TOO GOOD SOMETIMES. I THINK JOEY AND EMMITT SHOULD BE THE FINAL TWO. BUT ITS TOUGH BECAUSE MARIO LOPEZ DOES BRING EXCITEMENT AND WE ALL WAIT TO WATCH HIM.

Well, I’m really confused now! Emmett and Monique were the only ones who did ball room dances! The others are great but it’s not something that you see in a ball room per se! Joey’s “Dancing in the rain” routine was cute but it was Emmett who really did the actual dance the way it’s supposed to be danced! I switched last night from voting for Mario to voting for Emmett! Poor Jerry…he really wants to leave so let’s not vote for him! Let’s give him a break!!

Emmitt was extremely good last nite, but Mario just flat out looks like a pro. He’s just so good and it comes so naturally to him that I believe he is not always given the top scores like he should. Can a person be too good? Mario should win, Emmitt second. And I love our girl, Monique. She is a fabulous dancer. I think great things will be in the works for her in the future.

Absolutely! Emmitt and Cheryl were robbed! They definitely deserved a 30, especially considering how generous the judges are with far less talented contestants, doling out 7 and 8′s for mediocre performances. My money and vote is on Emmitt. The guy is a winner! He, unlike Mario and Joey, is not a professional actor with dance training. The guy is a professional athlete with tremendous innate talent and an undeniable work ethic. He has, by far, improved the most. Personally, I am tired of the Mario craze. How well would he do on a football field? GO EMMITT!

Definitely robbed. Especially if you compare Emmitt and Cheryl’s routine to the other couples that Bruno gave a score of 10 to. Theirs was just impressive, if not better. They deserved a 10.

I always vote for my man, Mario! Emmitt’s robbed experience paid off though. But Mario I gotta keep voting for him!

    smooth on the dance floor.

emmitt was definetly robbed of a perfect 10 score in tuesdays performance. i feel that on several dances emmitt and cheryls routine was definetly better than anyone elses, especially that of mario’s and the judges still rewarded mario with a higher score. they even rewarded mario with higher points than emmitt and cheryl even when mario broke the rules.. TWICE. i also thought it was highly arrogant for carrie ann to have said during one show that mario was up there with the professionals. the other dancers work equally as hard i’m sure. the judges scores often doesn’t reflect their comments. i’m beginning to wonder about those judges capabilities in judging and being fair. think the judges already have decided who they want to win. Goooooo Emmitt!!!!!

Emmitt is entertaining and an asset to the show, however I do not think he was robbed. Moreover, I think he has been given inflated scores. While he may be light on his feet, he has not demonstrated the ability for swift and intricate footwork or difficult dance movements. Mario and Karina seem to have the most difficulty in their routines.

We all want our personal favorite to win – so when a score is not high enough we think there is something unfair. However, to see your dancer stay in the “game” you need to vote. I think Emmitt and Cheryl got the votes from the judges they deserved as there were other times when 3 “10′s” could have easily been given out to the other dancers. I really enjoy this show and love to watch all the dancers – I do have my favorite, also, and hope he wins – but that does remain to be seen. Good luck to them all.

First of all, I was totally disapointed when Willa was voted off…SHe was beautiful and danced wonderfully…She had a great sence of humor and the work she put in there should of been recognised a lot more..But i think Mario,Joey and Emmit are all equal dancers, and they should have a prize for all the dancers who put so much into it..

Mario, in my opinion, is clearly the best. He has the moves, vitality, personality. Emmett and Joey are great too, but Mario has taken it a step further.
This is the best show ever on TV! Please keep it up!

Emmit might as well stay home. The judges have already deceided that mario is the winner. It was deceided form the first night. I’m not saying he is a good dancere, because he is. But I don’t think he is the greatest thing that has come along since the show began. Joey is just as good. How do we kown what the audience voted. We’re just taking their word. No numbers have been posted from the audience vote.I think the female judge didn’t hide at all who she wants to win.
