Could American Idol Mid-Season Surprise Be The Return Of Elvis?
January 16, 2007 02:13 AM by Joe Reality
Only American Idol could make headlines across America by merely suggesting that there will be a surprise on their show. One vague quote from an American Idol producer
promising a mid-season event that will blow America away has become one
of the biggest stories of the new year. Who knows if there really is a
surprise planned at this point? Maybe American Idol producers just
threw it out there knowing that thousands of reporters would speculate
and try to guess what the surprise event is and generate massive pre-launch
media exposure for the show.
Maybe American Idol producers are reading all the media guesses right now and are planning to pick the best guess and actually make it a reality. In essence, American Idol producers have become so adept at working the media that they’ve actually tricked the media into doing all the work for them in coming up with new show ideas.
Assuming there really is a big event already planned then with all the current media hype, nothing short of the return of Elvis Presley could live up to expectations. While this might seem like an outlandish possibility, nothing should be ruled outside the realm of possibility when it comes to American Idol. Last season, American Idol flew the contestants to Graceland in Memphis and did a special Elvis night performance show.
During the show, Priscilla Presley said “I think that, you know, if Elvis were alive today, he would certainly cheer you on. I think it would be one of his favorite shows.” Could it be that The King himself was watching from his secret hideaway in Kalamazoo, Michigan? Could this have been a coded message from Priscilla telling Elvis that it’s time to come out of hiding and make a guest appearance on American Idol? If about midway through American Idol, we see a chubby, grey-haired old man in a jumpsuit stumble out on the stage eating a peanut butter and banana sandwich, then we will know American Idol has delivered on its surprise.

Obviously, the big surprise is that superstar Carrie Underwood will be returning to sing on the show. She is the “Elvis” of our generation with a debut album that has gone five times platinum. She has become a megastar gone nova since she left the show- there is no bigger star right now in the world. Her returning will double their ratings. It will also be a show of support to families watching they still want these Idols to be role-models to our youth- Carrie, a Christian, will convey that. Hopefully they will let her speak about her faith in Jesus during the show. Carrie is a genius, they know it and we know it- her coming back to sing will create a media sensation! I love you, Carrie! You’re the BEST!!

There is a wealth of knowledge not known about Elvis Presley.
Schmelvisers know all about his diet and weight, but not a thing about the man’s remarkable and versatile voice and unparalleled contribution to popular music.
Elvis’s extraordinary courage to single-handedly actually steal black music had to be seen to be believed. By the extremely gullible of course:-)

I think the big surprise will be that one of the military contestants gets most of the way into the show and then is called up and has to leave for Iraq. That’d be a good twist, and I can see it happening. One of the people that auditioned last night served on the USS Ronald Regan and a friend of my wife served on the Regan at the same time, we think we even caught a glimpse of her in the background when the guy was singing. Wish I could catch the footage again.

i think the big surprise is the appearance of Bruce Springsteen. i bet you the reason he allowed Taylor to sing “dancing in the dark” last year was to show his kids that their dad is pretty good too!
