Twenty-one year old Thomas Daniels from Troutdale, Oregon revealed that
he had just recently quite his job as a gas attendant. Tommy also
called American Idol his “elevator to the top.” Before Thomas
auditioned in front of the judges, he told them that he had slept
behind a row of garbage cans while waiting to audition.
Thomas Daniels also told the judges that this was his third time audition for American Idol. Thomas claimed that the third time would be the charm, but Randy Jackson joked back “charm or it’s over.” Thomas sang Amos Lee’s “Arms of a Woman.”
Paula Abdul said “Very nice.” Simon Cowell said “I thought you sang that very well, Thomas. Nice to hear a non-obvious song again.” Randy Jackson said “Dude, I loved you, man. I thought it was really, really nice, beautiful tone, baby, beautiful tone.” All three judges gave Thomas a “yes,” and he was the first one in Seattle through to Hollywood.
