So You Think You Can Dance Holding Casting Calls For Season Three

January 26, 2007 07:41 PM by Joe Reality

Fresh off its sold-out, cross-country performance tour, SO YOU THINK
YOU CAN DANCE, last summer’s No.1 hit, begins another search for
America’s favorite dancer Thursday, March 1, in New York City. Entering
its third season this summer on FOX, the hot series from the producers
of AMERICAN IDOL and “American Bandstand” is hosted by Cat Deeley, one
of the UK’s top television personalities and a correspondent for “The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Good Morning America.” Once again SO
YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE promises to keep America moving to a different
beat, as dancers skilled in everything from the “street” styles of
hip-hop, krumping and popping to “the best of ballroom” – salsa,
quickstep, jive and more – compete to be named America’s favorite.

Producers will travel to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta in search of dancers who best represent the rhythm of America. Talented dancers who spark the judges’ interest during auditions will be invited to call-backs, where they will work with top choreographers. During the call-back week, the judges will choose the Top 20 dancers who will continue in the competition.

The series became a phenomenon in its second season, in which Benji Schwimmer was voted America’s Favorite Dancer and received $100,000, a new car and a contract to appear in Celine Dion’s “A New Day” show at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE will hold casting calls in New York beginning Thursday, March 1; in Chicago on Thursday, March 8; in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 22; and in Atlanta on Thursday, April 5. Casting is open to persons between the ages of 18 and 30 at the time of the audition who are either U.S. citizens, permanent residents of the U.S., or possess a current legal visa allowing them to seek employment in the U.S. without restriction as to employer.

Whatever happened to Benji Schwimmer? Did he take the job with Celine Dion?

Benji’s been extremely busy since SYTYCD. He didn’t take the car (he had just gotten a car) or the Celine job. He’s been teaching everywhere nationally & internationally (swing, hiphop, & jazz). Competed a few times in swing. He & Heidi performed at the NY Eve show on FOX w/ Cat Deeley & Marc Jacobs’ x-mas party. Held a benefit show for his charity & distro’d the money in Mexico; & did a telethon in Chile for orphans. Right now he’s filming Christina Aguilera’s music video CANDYMAN w/ sis Lacey; and in a couple months he & Heidi will start filming the movie (Love N Dancing). He & Heidi created intro to swing DVDs @ benjiandheidi.com. Go to benjischwimmer.org/theexchange for more info on what he’s up to. These are his official forums.
