American Idol Viewers Petition To Bring Back Sixty-Four Year Old Sherman Pore

February 01, 2007 01:13 AM by Joe Reality

Sherman_poreEvery once in awhile, an American Idol contestant touches the hearts of
Idol viewers in a special way.  The latest contestant to pull off such
a feat was none other than sixty-four year old Sherman Pore.  Even
though Sherman was 36 years over the American Idol age limit of 28, he
showed up at the auditions with a petition to be an American Idol
contestant.

While American Idol has let contestants over the age limit audition in the past, most of those auditions have been for comic relief.  However, Sherman Pore said the reason he was auditioning was he had worked on a letter and petition to become an American Idol contestant with his lady love of twenty years while she was in the hospital because of cancer.  Sherman choked up as he said, “I believe that it helped her to keep a positive attitude, and I think it smoothed her passing and made it a little softer.”

Before his Los Angeles audition, Sherman also revealed to the judges that his lady love had passed away two days before the auditions.  Sherman sang “You Belong To Me” and actually proved to be one of the better singers from the Los Angeles auditions.  After his audition, Sherman said “I won.  I am a winner.”

American Idol viewers also think Sherman Pore is a winner, and they want to see more of him.  Posters on the American Idol message board have started a petition of their own asking producers to bring Sherman back to perform on the American Idol 6 finale.  The petition is quickly gaining steam as one of the most popular posts on the message board.

This was a very sad audition for this poor man who just lost his wife. Paula was crying and Simon was even nice to the man. This guy could even sing pretty good.

they should definately make a spin-off of AI in which people over the age of 40 are allowed to audition. sherman’s appearance last night was so touching, & so sad… he has a real lounge singer quality to his voice. :)

I admire the man for the love that he had and has for his lady love. The song that he sang was also a song the my Dad used to sing for his lady love, my mother. I can’t hear that song with out remembering the love that they shared and love the fact that it meant the same for sherman and his wife. Please Idol, bring him back to sing again. I love him and his strength.

This is one of the classiest things AI has ever done. Letting him sing was great. I agree with a previous post – let those of us over 40 with decent pipes let our lights shine! We could out-sing most of those kids who made it to Hollywood!

That was just so sweet. After this, I really hoped there wouldn’t be an age limit on American Idol. It was the best audition to me.

It did my heart glad to hear this gentleman sing so lovingly to his departed lady love. Yes, he’s a “winner” and the best thing that’s happened on this season of auditions.

    PLEASE READ PETITION LINK INFORMATION!!!!!!

The day after the episode aired with Sherman I started the original petition to have Sherman perform and dedicate his song to his lady love on the Finale show for this season. The day after the episode aired he appeared on a news channel and said this about his audition…..

“I was singing to her. I want to sing. I promised Melissa I would sing. I promised her I would sing as much, to as many, for as long as I possibly could and I told her that before she left me”.

This is why I started this petition. What better way for him to fulfill his parting wish to her. I petition for Sherman to come back on the finale show so he can sing to MILLIONS like his lady love Melissa wanted.

Following is the link to my petition if you would like to sign it and thank you for your support.

I actually met Sherman before the show aired and saw him today again as well. He was talking to my high school guitar class about the auditioning process and he didn’t know he was going to get any airtime. He is just as sweet in real life as is in the show

Loved Sherman’s audition. It would have been nice to see the judges sign his petition before he sang.

An AI for 30+ would be interesting.

Sherman has a voice that takes you back to the days of the ‘Glenn Miller Show’, this petition should turn into a vote to vote him in as the 13th finalist.

I bought a CD called “For My Lady Love” and the music is pretty. The existing age limit on AI is 28. And I think that’s just downright stupid! I think that we need a “Senior Idol”. That way, people that are above the age limit of 28 does have that chance. I think that some of the performances of the young people slams like an old porch door. People that are Sherman’s age really have a superior voice. I signed several petitions to either raise the age limit or have no age limit at all. I too signed the petition to bring him back.
