American Idol All Stars Special Might Be Planned For This Season
February 09, 2007 07:48 PM by Joe Reality
Back in May of last year, Reality TV Magazine wrote an article asking
the question if there would ever be an American Idol All Stars edition. Now,
American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe has weighed in on what he thinks
about the idea of an American Idol All Stars, and the good news is that he
is all for it.
When asked if an American Idol All Stars edition had ever been discussed during a recent call with media, Lythgoe responded “Yes it has. It’s something that I’m trying to make work this season.” However, Lythgoe’s idea for an All Stars version is a little different from what other reality shows like Survivor, Big Brother, and Amazing Race have done. Instead of an entire season featuring returning contestants, Lythgoe envisions a special with ten former finalists occurring during this season of American Idol.
Lythgoe explained, “They’re talking about doing a song competition on the Web, and have people write songs for the next American Idol finale. Because whenever they come out and sing a song on the American finale, the only criticism Randy Jackson can do is, ‘I don’t like that song.’ That’s not very helpful. They’re going to be putting it out next week and trying to sell it, and here’s you saying, ‘I don’t like the song.’”
Lythgoe went on to add, “So the way to do it, some bright spot thought, why don’t we let America choose the song they’re going to sing, as well as their idol? Then we sort of encapsulate the whole thing. My idea was, okay, well give me ten songs, and I will bring back ten Idol finalists to sing them on a special, and then America can really see them rather than just have them on the Web and download them or whatever. Let’s see Constantine Maroulis again, let’s see Ace Young, let’s see Vonzell, Tamyra Gray, and all of the great people that we voted for over the years. I’d love to do that. And with good reason at the end of the day for doing it, which is to produce the song that the next American Idol is going to sing.”
So will an American Idol All Stars edition actually happen? According to Lythgoe, “I’ve pitched it to Fox, and Fox hasn’t come back to me yet and said yes or no.” Our opinion is that Fox would be crazy to not do it, because it’s virtually guaranteed to be ratings gold.

Hopefully superstars Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson will come back to sing. Not only are both world-famous megastars, both are Christians and role models for children to see and look up to.
No one wants to see skanky Floptasia and people who have once been arrested like Bo Lice or Taylor Ick, all of their albums have FLOPPED- don’t make the audience suffer having to see these scumbags back on the screen.
And I will personally lead a boycott of the show if Clay Aiken is allowed on it. If you go to perezhilton.com, it’s saying Clay has yet again been sleazing on the internet for cheap gay sex! I told people his album would BOMB if he did not come clean about all that- and he didn’t- and guess what! His album FLOPPED! I was right, wasn’t I? You can’t say I was not right! I said it and it happened! Didn’t it? HUH? I said so! I did! That’s what I said! That’s what happened! Bombs away! His career is OVER, FINISHED! It’s time to mop up and clear out the corners! If he is on that show, I will be OUTRAGED!

I think there should be another American Idol however it should consist of ALL the Idol Finalists, Seasons 1-6, and put them through a “idol” like format and wittle them down to 24 guys and 24 girls. Then let America judge from THAT group who makes the All Star top 12 and let America judge the finalists through non-themed weeks of just straight individual performances where they sing whatever they feel like singing and see if America loves them for the singers\artists\entertainers that they are. It would be 80 singers (if everyone agrees to do it) 38 guys and 42 girls. That way, America gets that second chance to cut who should have been cut and support those who should have gone further in the competition.

I would like to add to the list Elliott Yamin. I would love to hear him sing again. I heard he is putting out a cd in March.

Two words for you: Anthony Fedorov.
I adore him and will watch and record and promote anything he is involved in. He is my fave of all time on Idol as well as overall in singers. I voted for and promoted him incessantly both online and offline while he was on the show and still promote him at every opportunity even now, a couple of years removed from his time on the show.
Read and understand this and do it well: Anthony Fedorov=my interest+my efforts to promote your product+plus guaranteed viewership.
No Anthony Fedorov=no real interest in your product here, let alone promotion efforts and viewership.
Get Anthony Fedorov on your show!

Mandisa, from last year for sure. I only watched last years show. Elliott would blow the doors off anyone I’m sure but it would be a backward move for him. He is well beyond those who snubbed him by not offering him a contract. I like the idea though.
