In an article that served as a correction for a previous article, The
Houstonian Online has reported that American Idol contestant Ashlyn
Carr will not be charged in an incident which involved putting sugar in
an ex-boyfriend’s gas tank. Back on November 14, 2006, The Houstonian
Online had originally reported that Sam Houston State University
student Ashlyn Carr had been arrested for and confessed to pouring
sugar in another Sam Houston State University student’s gas tank.
On February 6, 2007, Ashlyn Carr appeared as a contestant on the American Idol San Antonio auditions and made it to Hollywood after being given a second chance by the American Idol judges. With Ashlyn’s participation in American Idol, Reality TV Magazine discovered and reported on The Houstonian Online article, and it quickly became a major story on blogs and entertainment news sites.
On February 8, 2007, the Houstonian Online ran a follow-up story called “Sugar Culprit Faces Consequences” that suggested Ashlyn Carr had been charged with criminal mischief. However, the Houstonian Online has now withdrawn the follow-up article and instead reports that the District Attorney’s office has told them that no charges will be filed against Ashlyn Carr as long as she makes restitution for the damage.
Ever since news of Ahslyn Carr’s arrest broke, there has been much speculation on how it would affect her participation in American Idol. The news that she has not been charged over the incident is likely a positive development in her chances at being allowed to continue to participate in the show.
