American Idol Surprise Event To Be Revealed Thursday

March 07, 2007 12:18 AM by Joe Reality

At the beginning of the top 8 guys performance show, Ryan Seacrest said
“It’s a very big week for the show, not only will we give you your top
twelve on Thursday, but we’re going to announce one of the most
important events in Idol history.  Trust me, you’ll want to be here for
that on Thursday.”

The important event that Ryan Seacrest referred to is likely the same surprise event that American Idol producers have been teasing about for months.  What is the surprise event?  The only thing we know for sure is that according to American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe it’s not about an individual.  In an interview with TV Week, Lythgoe denied that either Paul McCartney or Michael Jackson would be coming on the show.

Lythgoe also told TV Week, “But it is something very special, and I did say it does involve "American Idol" and it also involves America.  It involves the viewers, it involves a whole big issue here.  It’s something that I know we’re all very proud of.  We’re going to be the first program that will talk about this sort of thing and well, it will have to wait until next time. But I can’t wait to tell you.”

So what is this big surprise event?  Lythgoe’s hints are very confusing, but that the surprise event is being announced on the same night as the top twelve finalists are being announced is very interesting.  It’s always been very suspicious that many of most featured contestants during the auditions were cut with barely a mention during Hollywood week.  Could it be that the American Idol wildcard show is coming back?

If the surprise event is not a wildcard show, then our prediction would be that it is some kind of World Idol competition, maybe with a charitable component.  Lythgoe’s reference to that it does involved “American Idol” makes us think that maybe it’s bigger than just America and American Idol.  Post your opinions below on what you think the surprise event is.

Let me guess, Antonella will be eliminated this week, but if AI brings back the wild card, they will bring her back regardless of the votes. Okay maybe not, and the wild card isn’t something BIG. I’m guessing a new system for the top 12 voting. Maybe they will make it so that girls compete with girls, and boys compete with boys and in the end the top 2 will consist on one boy and one girl? I have no idea.

I’m hoping they will announce that only “Christians” will be allowed to compete in the future- which will get the trash and convicts out of this show for good- and who better to represent that than World mega-star Carrie Underwood? I hope I’m right- it’s the only way to fix everything thas has been wrong with this show from the beginning.

Donna Lane didn’t you say in comments on another AI article that you wouldn’t be back if Antonella was still on the show this week?

They’ve been talking about “original compositions” from the home viewers? perhaps they will let the IDOL contestants sing these songs?! these will be awesome if they can come with a good formula .. and this will really involve the viewers … quite interesting

It’s probably an “All Stars Idol” that Nygel’s been trying to get approved by everyone & Fox.

Are you for real??? Only Christians…Yes a show called American Idol is going to descriminate against other religions. Besides I’m sure most of the convicts and other rif raff on the show are Christians!!!

    Geta clue!!

This has been the worst season of Idol since Season 1. The singers are generally weak and laughable. The clue is Paula. She seems bored and struggles to be “nice” to a batch of off-piteched, mealy singers.
The guys are almost all terrible with a couple of exceptions. And the one with long dark Hair,Tontalaya, is beyond awful.
What has happened to this show?
Paula will be the first to leave.
The big surprise will be this:
There will be two winners this seasons. Look for Tondalaya to get the ax!!! Sensitivity to the extreme!!!

All of you who persecute christians have another thing coming.

“But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and sodomites and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

The abominables are the Indian pagan kid Sanjaya and the fatsos Sundance Pighead and Chris Sligh. If he were a real christian he would lose weight. Gluttony is a sin. And that whore Antonella will go straight to hell along with the non-American non-Christians that have been allowed to sing.

Unbelievable!!! The person who made the comment about only allowing “Christians” on AI is showing the same extremist religious views as the Islamic extremists. One is as bad as the other in my estimation. There is no place at all for religion in this singing competition!!!

Really- the one who keeps following me and signing my name and email to things- pathetic. But I will no longer post on this website so it doesn’t matter anymore. Have fun in your evil ways.

Uh…I think the question was about the announcement Thursday? And, the notion that only Christians should be allowed is STUPID. Save the verse. Discrimination in the name of Christianity is an oxymoron. Look it up, dummy.

Secondly, what did Antonella do to deserve to be kicked off? Can she help it if her classless ex-boyfriend made some fast money off of her? THAT is why she is still on the show — people with a functioning brain understand that SHE didn’t do anything wrong! (Frenchie was paid for her photos, there is a difference.)
Maybe this will serve as a lesson for the young — do not put yourself in this position if you aspire to be great at ANYTHING.

It seems so obvious to me- they have been hinting at a separate songwriting competition, to write a song for the final week of the competition and the first single coming off of AI. Since other shows have not done this, it just has to be what they are talking about. I just hate being hyped up for something that a casual viewer/reader like me already knows about.

Frankly, I think all the “Christians only” posts are from a non-Christian trying to make Christianity look extreme and hateful. I’m not buying it. Secondly, my hunch is that it has either something to do with the songwriters’ competition or, as one other website speculated, a new way of choosing the finalists (i.e no dividing into guys/girls this year, just the true top 12).
Finally, with regard to the whole Antonella fiasco, when Frenchie was eliminated, the producers cited amongst other things, a certain standard that they felt the American Idol had to represent, since the younger viewers would look up to them and want to emulate them. IF that’s true, then whether or not Antonella meant for the pics to remain private, becomes a non-issue. Flipping off the camera, engaging in underage drinking, bumping and grinding against other women, and disrespecting a Washington DC memorial fountain, is hardly the type of behavior for youngsters to emulate. If the producers have changed their standards, then they should say so. If Antonella regrets doing those things and it doesn’t represent the woman she is today, SHE should say so. Otherwise, she should be out, with all due respect. Racism, pornography for pay, etc, are all side issues, at this point. Where am I wrong?

Its going to be the fact that the AI6 winners first single will be written by a fan of the show.

They’ve been talking about the user submitted contest for a long time and if it affects AI and America, I’m betting that is what they will announced. If that is the case, that is one hell of a lame ‘history changing event’ and they’ve been playing it up way to much.

This season of AI has been the worst yet. Very few of the singers have any talent and I’ve found it hard to show even a remote interest in this season. It really is sad when the most entertaining part of a show is the controversy surrounding one of its contestants. Lame!

I agree that if that’s the big announcement, that would be lame. Just another way for AI to reinvent itself, but hardly exciting, unless you’re the winner of the contest, of course.

it’s obvious that Lakisha and Melinda will be in the Final 2, with Lakisha ending the South’s rule once and for all, but Jordin, Stephanie and Sabrina could surprise both of them by knocking them out.

    What the announcement SHOULD be:

-Top 12 will consist of 8 girls and 4 boys. That would be AWESOME.

    -Wildcard show!

    What the announcement MAY be:

-American Idol All-Stars. That’d be pretty darn interesting, but not revolutionary.

What the announcement ALMOST CERTAINLY will be:

    -Idol Camp. Think about it.

If that freak show Michael Jackson is on the show, I will never watch it again.

Oh boy… If Idol camp was the big surprise….

    I’d turn off the television.

No, most likely it will be the whole song competition. They’ll probably bring back like old finalists to sing the songs, and America will vote for the song they like the most. (This whole thing SCREAMS Kimberly Caldwell… I dont know why)
