American Idol Top Eleven Performance Show – Sanjaya Rocks The House

March 20, 2007 09:21 PM by Joe Reality

Sanjaya_rocksAs part of British invasion week on American Idol 6, Peter Noone &
Lulu worked with the top eleven American Idol finalists.  Peter Noone
helped the guys, while Lulu helped the girls.  Haley Scarnato performed
“Tell Him.”  Randy Jackson said “That was the perfect song for you, and
America, Haley’s back in the competition.”  Paula Abdul said “You’re
adorable, you performed it tonight, good for you.”  Simon Cowell said
“I think people are going to be talking about a lot more than your
singing tonight.”

Chris Richardson performed “Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying.”  Randy Jackson said “It showed a really different side to you.  When you sing soft and you don’t push it, every note was in tune, it was beautiful, I think that was one of your best vocals yet, dog.”  Paula Abdul said “You’re playing this game to win it.”  Simon Cowell said “Chris, I think that was your best performance so far.”

Stephanie Edwards performed “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me.”  Randy Jackson said “It was a little pitchy for me.”  Paula Abdul said “You’re a great singer, the only thing I want you to do is going back to having that fun.”  Simon Cowell said “I think you are losing your edge.  I thought it was a bit night clubby.  I think you’re losing your soul.”

Blake Lewis performed “Time Of The Season.”  Randy Jackson said “That was brilliant, baby, brilliant.”  Paual Abdul said “I felt like I was at a concert.  I really do.  I think you could release that, put that on your record.”  Simon Cowell said “I think strongest performance so far.”

Lakisha Jones performed “Diamonds Are Forever.”  Randy Jackson said “I didn’t feel enough Lakisha in it.”  Paula Abdul said “You picked the right song, and you’re a very, very smart girl.  Anytime you’re going to sing about diamonds, they’re going to give you the real diamonds to wear.”  Simon Cowell said “This was Lakisha in fifty years time in my opinion.”

Phil Stacey performed “Tobacco Road.”  Randy Jackson said “It was a pretty good performance to me, there were a couple pitchy spots.”  Paula Abdul said “I do feel like there were some parts that were pitchy, but I think the emotion of the song, you were right there having fun, and I liked hearing the various ranges of your voice and how you played it off.”  Simon Cowell said “I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t crazy about it.”

Jordin Sparks performed “I Who Have Nothing.”  Randy Jackson said “One of the best performances that I think we’re going to see tonight.”  Paula Abdul said “A good singer is a good singer, and you’re also a wonderful performer.”  Simon Cowell said “You sang it beautifully, but I feel like jumping off a bridge.”

Sanjaya Malakar performed “You Really Got Me.”  During Sanjaya’s performance, the camera kept cutting to a little girl crying tears of happiness.”  Randy Jackson said “You came out of your shell tonight.  I think that was your best performance to date, baby.”  Paula Abdul said “That’s what we’ve been waiting for.”  Simon Cowell said “I think the little girl’s face says it all.”  Seacrest then clarified that the little girl was a fan, and Sanjaya went out and gave her a hug.

Gina Glocksen performed “Paint It Black.”  Randy Jackson said “It was just alright for me, man, it was a little pitchy in spots.”  Paula Abdul said “I think it was miles better than last week.”  Simon Cowell said “Gina, there were moments of complete torture in that vocal to be honest with you.”

Chris Sligh performed “She’s Not There.”  Randy Jackson said “I thought you ended it really strong.  It started a little rough for me though.”  Paula Abdul said “I like the fact that you’re working the audience, but really feel free to be more personable with the audience.”  Simon Cowell said “I thought it was fun.  You know, it wasn’t the best vocal we’ve heard tonight, but it was a good choice of song for you.”

Melinda Doolittle performed “As Long As He Needs Me.”  Randy Jackson said “I guess we could say tonight, we’ve probably saved the best vocal for last.”  Paula Abdul said “You are in your own league, my dear, you really are.”  Simon Cowell said “You made the second part of the song absolutely sensational.”

So who will be going home next?  As much grief as Sanjaya Malakar has been given, he really went for broke and rocked the house tonight.  While vocally, Sanjaya can’t compare to Melinda Doolittle, Lakisha Jones, or Blake Lewis, his performance was lively and entertaining.  We doubt that he will be going home next, but if he does, then he will be leaving on a high note.  The singers that we think are at risk are Stephanie Edwards, Phil Stacey, and Gina Glocksen.  It’s a very close call between those three, but unfortunately, we think Stephanie Edwards will be the next to go home.

I think LaKisha, Phil and Stephanie should be in the Bottom 3. Phil should be in there for the second time this week, Stephanie should be in there also and LaKisha should be in the bottom which could be really surprising about that. After the results, I think Stephanie would be eliminated.

SANJAYA ROCKED!!! he was finally getting the praise he deserves from the judges and shined again tonight as always! LaKisha is TERRIBLE!!! what a bad singer wow. i would compare her singing to a roller coaster and her looks well… im not even gonna touch that ugly stick! lol but no Phil Stacey and Gina were really good and so was everybody but LaKisha!!! i would put Stephanie Edwards, Haley Scarnato, and LaKisha Jones in the bottom three.

I hope LaKisha does get kicked off tomorrow simply so she can stop being embarassed having to stand next to those talentless jokes. LaKisha is head and shoulders above the rest (cept maybe jordan…if you know what i mean hah). Her performance tonight was stunning vocally and physically. She won’t win this competition, thank goodness because calling Lakisha Jones the American Idol would be an understatement

As of tonight my favorites are: Jordin, Chris R. and Blake. AWESOME!!! They are simply the best! VERY disappointed in Gina’s performance. Before tonight, I felt sure Sanjaya or Haley would be going home. But after tonight I would say the bottom three are: Gina, Phil and Stephanie. Guess we’ll see….

For the past 4 weeks we’ve seen how this Indian/American performs. He’s weak in everything, voice, stage presence, etc. Tonight performance was no exception, just because the people are used of seeing this Indian/American and now they praise his performance, it could be his best(?) so far but when compared to Blake, it could be Blake’s worst performance, got it? The likes of Sanjaya (oopps!), Kevin, Scott are in the same league.

I really liked what Blake did with that Zombies song. He added his own style without being too different from the original song. Some have said he shouldn’t have beatboxed again, but that worked for this song. I was very impressed by his performance. Next week I hope he can sing something straight.

I like Stephanie. I think she has a good voice and a great personality. I’m a bit scared this week, however. I actually feel that based on THIS performance she is likely to be sent home, sorry to say.

I find this so funny that people can actually watch this show, with a straight face, and actually believe that Sanjaya is good enough to still be in the competition. Yes he’s a very cute kid and he has all the qualities of being the front man for a boy band. But his singing is to soft and he’s not enough of an entertainer. He seems like a nice enough kid and I understand that his performance last night was him trying to show the world that he is capable of being in the competition, but it just wasn’t good enough. HOWEVER, Stephanies performance was pain staking as well, and that’s sad to say because she is usually so good. But I hope that America stops making a mochery of this show and starts voting the right people off. There is such talent in the competition this year. In my personal opinion, Chris Richardson is the front runner for the men. Yes, he has a Justin Timberlake quality, and that is very appealing right now (TRUST ME :) ) But he has also proved himself as a singer and after last nights performance I would be suprised if he didn’t make it to the finals.

Sanjaya must go – he is simply not good enough to stand next to the likes (vocally) of the Chris’s, Melinda, and Jordin, and excrutiating to listen to.

People – the sympathy vote thing has gone far enough.

First, the good news. This show was miles above last week’s display of rotten singing. They really did much better with the British Invasion songs. And Jordin’s. ‘I Who Have Nothing” was incredible!!! Even Latisha’s soft,”Diamonds are Forever’ wasnt bad. Everyone shone, even the dreadful Sin-Jalala, who’s singing was frentic, but at least had energy!!
    Very good show!!!
And Blake’s “Time of The Season” was awsome!!!

I think it is an absolute disgrace that Sanjaya is still in this competition. Forget sympathy votes – this is a singing competition!! It is ridiculous that he is still on the stage with the other VERY talented singers. I loved most of the singer’s last night but I think Stephanie and Sanjaya’s time is up!

Well I have to say that the females have every reason to be nervous tonight after last night’s performances. For the first time this season some of the girls didn’t outshine the fellas. I agree that last night’s show was the best overall showing of the singers yet. Nobody really butchered anything last night. That being said, if you weren’t on last night it really showed in a BIG way!
I’m still not fond of any of the male performers because I still think none of them can hold a candle to the women vocally. I don’t even have any more words for Sanjaya. Everybody knows he’s the worst left in the competition and hopefully America felt the same way last night and skipped voting for him.
Melinda and Jordan were absolutely stunning last night. They continue to validate this show as a real singing competition when, at times, you’re scratching your head because of average performers at most.
My bottom three based on last night are:
    1. Sanjaya-and any two of the other remaining four male singers.
My top three based on last night are:
    1. Melinda
    2. Jordan
    3. Number three is kind of up for grabs but I guess I would give it to Haley. She didn’t forget her lyrics or do anything wrong last night. I didn’t care for her song though.

    March 21st, 2007 at 1:54 pm

I love last nights show. So Haley started out and I thought she was okay, but could be in the bottom 3. Chris Richardson was good and he better stay. Stephanie Edwards could be in danger because I did not really feel for her. Blake Lewis was totally the best one of the night. Loved it completely. Lakihsa Jones? What happened to her. She was still good, but not that great last night. Also no one was like voting for her so my mom voted for her the whole night, I hope she is not going home. Phil Stacey did not like it at all and I really hope he is in the bottom 3. Jordin Sparks was incredible last night, and the same with her she was not that busy. Sanjaya Malakar was fantastic last night and he comes in 2nd with me. Way to go Jaya. I thought it was so cute of the little girl crying for him and then she got to hug him. That must of made Sanjaya feel good to. You know what I mean and also getting a good comment from Randy. Gina Glocksen was terrible. I hope she is in the bottom. Chris Sligh was entertaining and sang awesome. Melinda Doolittle was great and not alot of people were voting for her. I will be very shocked if one of the very talented girls goes home. This is my ranking worst to best do not go by the numbers on the side
    11) Phil Stacey= 7
    10) Gina Glocksen=7
    9) Haley Scarnato=7.4 8) Stephanie Edwards=8.9
    7) Chris Richardson=8.7
    6) Melinda Doolittle=8.5
    5) Laisha Jones= 8
    4) Chris Sligh=9
    my 10′s that I gave
    3) Jordin Sparks= 10
    2) Sanjaya Malakar=10
and Blake Lewis number 1) Blake Lewis=10

    6) 8)

You’ve said that not many were (“like”) voting for Lakisha or for Melinda – how do you know that? Are you part of the team tallying the phone calls, or do you just know something the rest of America doesn’t?

Enough is enough – Sanjaya needs to GO! It is patently obvious that he sucks and is only there because votefortheworst.com is having a blast scewing the results.

Sanjaya sucks…plain and simple. He’s jsut a pretty face and too young. Not enough experience. It’s really shocking to see how much different the two 17 year olds are…Jordin sounds like she’s a professional, while Sanjaya should be in a high school play.

    Phil is boring.

Chris R. is too much boy band whiny for this competition.

I’m still shocked that Sabrina was voted off…she’s way better than Stephanie and Haylie.

AND…I can’t believe NO ONE sang a Beatles song! How do you do a 60′s British Invasion theme without the Beatles?!? Or the Who? Jeez…

  33. Anonymous Says:

WOW! Jordin was PHENOMENAL last night! It pierced right through me, and i believed EVERY WORD she sang. Melinda, as usual, is the cherry on top. She knows she’s good, but i love her for her humility. She will go far. Lakisha totally picked the wrong song last night, although she tried to perform it well. It just didn’t come out right. My favs last night: Jordin and Melinda Do”lots”.
I still can’t believe Sabrina was voted off!!! What are u ppl thinking keeping sanjaya and haley in and voting Sabrina off!!??

  34. Ranto Says:

I too was surprised by last night’s performances. I was expecting the usual crap-fest from the guys, and was pleasantly surprised.

I was disappointed with both LaKisha and Melinda — not because they sang badly (they are still near the top) — but because neither sang a song from the British Invasion. Melinda’s song was from a pre-British Invasion musical (1960) and LaKisha’s song was from a Hollywood movie that came out five years after the British Invasion ended. LuLu was right about the song choice for LaKisha. Melinda should have done something great like PLEASE DON’T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD.

Blake reminded me of the Joan Jett song I HATE MYSELF FOR LOVING YOU — because I find him smarmy and odd — but his performance last night was incredible. I hated myself for loving it.

Chris R on the other hand, reminded me of that great Naomi Watts line in one of her quirky movies — “I don’t hate myself enough to love you.” I’m surprised that so many people here like him — because I never could. Last night was his best performance to date, but it was very nasal, and he has this tendency to drop the last consonants of words that he sings. I put him near the bottom — even lower than Sanjaya. I loved Peter Noone’s comment about how he looks like a star, but he doesn’t hear it in his voice.

As for Sanjaya — last night was his best performance. It was certainly entertaining, but I would not call it good. Unlike many others here — I would have preferred not to have all those shots of the crying 13-year old girl. I found it very troubling.

I’m of the opinion that Gina, Phil and Stephanie were better than their evaluations would make it seem. Still lots of room for improvement.

Haley shocked me. I’ve long thought that she was the worst female — even worse than Antonella Barba. But last night she was OK.

And that leaves Jordin. Last year, Paris was my favorite. Fortunately my admiration for 17 year old girls does not go beyond their singing ability.

My only other comment about last night’s show is that I had completely forgotten how good LuLu is. What power!

The one that should go home: Sanjaya.
The one that I would like to go home: Chris R
The one that will go home: Stephanie.

  35. Ranto Says:
    March 21st, 2007 at 4:26 pm

Chris E — the reason that they didn’t do a Beatles song is because they don’t have the rights. Don’t blame the contestants. Don’t blame the producers. Blame the person who owns the rights to Beatles music. That would be Michael Jackson.

As for The Who — early Who songs wouldn’t come across too well, and later Who songs don’t fit the category — so I understand that.

What I don’t understand is — why no Animals. I would have loved seeing Melinda doing “Please don’t let me be misunderstood.” Of course, that was originally a Nina Simone song — and we already saw two people eliminated on the same night for doing a Nina song.
