American Idol – Will Sanjaya Malakar’s Mohawk Bring Him Good Luck?

March 28, 2007 12:06 AM by Joe Blackmon

Sanjaya_ponyhawkDuring the American Idol Top Ten performance show, there was a
re-occurring theme involving Sanjaya Malakar and good luck.  After
Sanjaya selected the song “Bath Water,” Gwen Stefani said “I feel for
him.  I think it’s going to be really difficult for him.  It’s a hard
song, and he chose it, so good luck for him tonight.”

After Sanjaya finished his performance, Simon Cowell said “I think you are in your own universe, and if people like you, good luck.”  When Ryan Seacrest greeted Sanjaya on stage, Seacrest said “It’s like a ponytail or like a ponyhawk.  There are a lot of little ponytails in there, huh?”  Sanjaya replied “Seven for good luck.”  Seacrest reiterated “It’s seven for good luck.”

Seacrest also asked Sanjaya at what point he was inspired, and Sanjaya said “I wanted to do a Mohawk because I thought it would be fun, and then the hair dude just put it all in a bunch of pony tails.”  After giving out Sanjaya’s phone number, Seacrest said “Thank you for the entertainment, and good luck to you, Sanjaya.”

Considering that Sanjaya Malakar has survived week after week despite some very harsh criticism from the judges, if he gets any more lucky then he just might win the whole competition.

No- I think he will be cut tomorrow- he had an arrogant attitude and America does not like that- I don’t think they will vote and he will be cut tomorrow.

IF YOU CAN’T BEAT THEM, JOIN THEM!!!!!!
I voted for Sanjaya on 2 phones at 15 seconds per call (4 votes per minute per phone) x 2 hours = 960 votes (minus a 10 minute break and a few lost votes due to busy signals)
    WHY?!?!?!
    1. I was frustrated by Idol last year when my girlfriend got me into it. I felt (like many of you) that real talent was ignored and crazy results came from left field. I lost trust in the AI system. But I gave it one more chance for Season 6.

I was really into this season. I felt their was some real talent. My favorite were Sundance and Sabrina. Especially Sabrina. She, like Jordin, have Star quality and talent.
But then it happened. You all know. Both of them were canned!!!!! And on the SAME SHOW!!!! WEEKS AGO!
    I G-A-V-E U-P.
AI is a joke. At least I figured it out in only 1.5 seasons. Not devoting 6 seasons and endless Hoopla to this national popularity contest.
Through Sanjaya ‘we’ are finally proving what a sham AI is. I don’t hate the show. I was one of ‘you’, a true believer. But I see the light now… or turned to the Dark Side, depending on your point of view.
IF YOU CAN’T BEAT THEM, JOIN THEM!!!!!! SANJAYA…”Thank You For Voting For Contestant 4!….”

Over half the performances were dismal at best and Gwen’s contributions nothing more than having her name and face a part of the show to further her world tour. Entertaining at least, Sanjaya’s Hair.

LaKisha was improved from last week, and Jordin sang great but her stylist should be smacked. Phil surprised with a very good rendition.

Sligh was terrible, and although he tried, horribly not funny. The
Matthew McConaughey bongo reference is so ten years ago. Melinda while predictable – even Seacrest pointed it out – her expression during critique very old, fake. Blake was surprisingly boring and honestly, not good. Chris Richardson, boring as well. One of the Worst talent seasons ever.

YES! AI is really a sham, I am sad about this and after seeing Sanjaya go father each week, I realize it is about 1 thing, ratings. If Sanjaya wins AI, or even makers the top 3, I think the show is finished and would have a hard time coming back next year as a serious show. LET THE IDIOTS AUDITION! But the HAIR thing is getting so sick and stupid I am hopeful this week he finally goes. Pass the barf bag please!

Haha…. Sanji’s hair was the only thing that was keeping him afloat…
    Now that’s gone too…

He’s just trying to lose…. and failing.

I hope he wins… this year sucks anyway.

Sanjaya has everything it takes to be the Idol…. I can’t say as much for the other performers. Kiki and Melissa both have great lungs, but it’s like i’ve heard the same song over and over again. It’s like ok, when are they going to sing something else, something different. None of the others really stand out. Blake is the only one offering anything unique. Rocker girl was right on the spot last night. Sanjaya took the show…. That’s Entertainment!

Ok fans, Sin-Jalala’s hair was good for a laugh but it still looked like a bad hat!! To be fair, his “singing” has improved a wee-bit but his noxious smile is NOT Idol material!!
Last night’s selection was so-so–even Blake’s rendition lacked punch. And Gina did turn it up.
But there was no real theme!!
Some Donna Summer mixed in with No Doubt stuff!
Yes, we are all thrilled–no Areaha,Whitney, and Celine, thank God but some of the vocals were dull. Frizzy haired Chris is quickly becoming an egotistic midget with his uninspired vocals.
I think he’s slipped to Sin-jala’s level of not really singing, just croaking it out.
    Who leaves tonight?
Probably Haley. And I hated Jordin’s Stanfani tune!YIKES!

He doesn’t need luck, he’s got the “Vote for the Worst” crew behind him. And now you can even vote for him through your cell even if you can’t (or don’t want to) watch the show.

I was really sick last night, but I watched the show. I thought the bests were Lakisha, Melinda and Blake. The good were Chris R and Jordin. The okay were Chris Sligh. The bad were Sanjaya, Haley and Phil. I really hope it is either Sanjaya or Haley going.

i actually liked the hair. I thought it was cute. It kind of reminded me of Nadia Turner doing “Time After Time” a couple seasons ago. Unfortunately, though, the faux-hawk didn’t make up for what the performance lacked. He would’ve needed a little more attitude and chutzpah to really pull off the hair or the song, but i personally thought he seemed too nice to really work either and if America agreed, this could be his last night. But we’ve been surprised before…

I suspect Chris Sligh, Haley, and Phil being in the bottom three, but as for who goes, it’s a bit of a toss up. Lakisha may be in the bottom 3 in place of Phil, but…

…Chris Sligh is near guaranteed in the bottom 2. He performed early (2nd), which is never an enviable position, and before Gina’s best performance, making it likely that people forgot of him. Also, he MUST stop making excuses or saying that he could’ve done better. You have to take what you can get and make the most with it, Sligh, even if your mentor seems to hate you (seriously, Gwen didn’t seem to like Chris S at all). If he survives this week, he had better step it up, or else he WILL be gone. Still, I feel bad for him. Sad how one so good and memorable in the auditions and semifinals is falling from grace now. His sense of humor is fading as well. I have a bad hunch he’s leaving us tonight. -_-…

…unless there is a mini-shocker and Phil Stacey goes instead. He did well tonight and pretty good last week, but of all the contestants who remain, he seems to have the least amount of fans and hype. However, it is pretty unlikely that he will go this week. If he does, some contestants should count their blessings…

…like Haley Scarnato. Once thought to be the Melissa McGhee of this year, she broke the Top 12 curse (a.k.a-whoever places twelvth place is a forgettable, usually weak-voiced female) and has made it on the tour. Still, she didn’t do so well last night compared to her female peers, particularly Gina and Melinda. She’s likely to be the next girl to go…

…unless Lakisha goes the way of Jennifer Hudson. It seems that her recent performances pale in comparison to her semifinal ones, especially “And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going”. She is almost certainly safe this week, but if she isn’t the last to sing or doesn’t perform well next week, she could very well be gone. That would suck…

…especially if Sanjaya lasted longer than her. I liked Sanjaya enough until this week; his ego appears to be growing. I don’t think the question is if he’ll be around another week, I think it’s what brand new hairstyle he’ll be showing off next week.

Everyone is so wrong – Sanjaya’s hair style is/was not a *Mohawk* -It was a *Pawnee*

2 different tribes of Native Americans………..in 2 different places in the USA.

Sanjaya looked ridiculous! No talent so uses props now.

Melinda is the best one anyway….

Ok, Im sick of Sanjaya. I hope everyone is. I hope votefortheworst.com is shut down. But then again, I don’t rule the world. Can we all agree that Melinda, Blake and Lakisha are the best? Wouldn’t it be sad if Sanjaya won OVER them???? It may not seem possible, but IT IS!!! Simon might even leave if he wins, so please, for the sake of the show, STOP VOTING 4 MALAKAR!!!!!!!!!!!

Sanjaya is the only really unique person on that show! People seem to think that every person should be catgorized into the same boring molds – “masculine” man – pretty, sexy women, etc. Sanjaya is a MALE person! It is your loss if you do not understand that! He does not have to fit the carbon-copy image of a “butch man”. He has his own unique image! I for one, hope he wins AI and becomes supreme!
