American Idol – Gina Glocksen Surprised To Be Eliminated
April 07, 2007 09:02 AM by Joe Blackmon
All of the previously eliminated American Idol 6 finalist had some
inclination that they were going to get eliminated when they did. Most
had just come off a performance where they had forgotten the words to
their song or received harsh criticism from the judges, so they at
least had an idea that they might be in trouble with the viewer vote.
Chris Sligh even bet another finalist fifty bucks that he was going to
be eliminated on the night that he got sent home from the show.
Gina Glocksen is actually the first finalist from this season whose elimination seemed to catch her completely by surprise. During a recent media conference call, Glocksen said "I was really disappointed, because at no point in time on Tuesday night or before I went to bed on Tuesday or preparing for Wednesday night, did I think that I’d be going home, not this week. I thought that I had a really good performance on Tuesday, and I was really proud of the song that I chose and the way that I chose to present it. So it was just emotional to know that I was going to be going home. I didn’t even have a chance to be in the bottom three ever, and the one time that I was I’m going home. So it was pretty hard."
Gina Glocksen did not blame her song choice, her tongue ring, Simon Cowell, or even the theme as being the reason for her elimination. When asked if she regretted singing "Smile," Glocksen said "I am not regretting anything. I’m not. I was happy that I had a chance to sing that song, because it kind of showed America that I also have a voice and not just a rocker image. I also have a voice to sing with."
When asked if her tongue ring could have been a hindrance for some people voting for her, Glocksen said "I think they focused on my singing talent and the song choices. And if that was the reason why they didn’t follow through with voting for me, then I’m okay with that, because I was just continuing to be myself. I’ve had my tongue ring in for three years, and to take it out for a couple shows, it kind of seemed funny to me. It’s who I am, and that’s why people like me."
When asked if Simon Cowell was tough on her because he wanted to see her fail, Glocksen said "No. I kind of considered Simon as a parent. Parents will kind of, I guess maybe like the tough love kind of thing, they’ll tell you what you don’t want to hear, so you’ll do the opposite. And I think he’ll say that I had a bad performance, just to make me stronger, because he did like me and he does see something special in me. And I think he just wanted to push me to that next level."
When asked is she got voted off because this week’s theme was great American classics, Glocksen said "No, I don’t think that’s it, because I think my fans in America knew that this was going to be a tough week for me, because you can’t rock out Tony Bennett. But I think my fans were just proud of my last two performances. They were probably my two strongest out of the whole season, and kind of thought that I’d be safe, so they decided not to vote so much. And I think that kind of killed me, because every vote counts."
Despite the shock over her surprise eliminated, Gina Glocksen did take some solace in the fact that the crowd started booing after her name was announced as the eliminated contestant, Gina Glocksen said "It made me feel so blessed and very much loved. You never know how many people love you in the audience. It’s hard to see all the signs that say, "LaKisha or Jordan or Melinda, you’re my Idol." There were like two or three that said, "Gina, you rock." I treasure those signs and posters. But to have that crowd in the uproar of booing, it was bittersweet because I’m great friends with Haley and I’m glad to see her still there, but I also wish that I were still there."

American Idol has really failed. Gina is good and being voted off was sickening!! We all know who should be sent home, he should of been from the beginning. I have watch american idol every year, but no more it has become a joke and it just isn’t fun or entertaining to watch anymore. good luck with staying on the air for next season. For once I agree with simon, this is a joke with no one laughing.

Sanjaya should show the others some respect as well as himself and realize that he is not good and remove himself out of the competion. This would give those who really can sing to do something great. It seems as if this competiton is a big joke. I’m sure he is a nice guy but honestly he is not idol material.

Sanjaya is a joke…..but blame the judges, he should not have made the top 24.

Gina is REALLY nice and very smart. I actually think that she got eliminated because she got to the point where she couldn’t get any more votes than she was getting.
Also, even though she had less votes than Sanjaya, she also had less votes than Melinda, Lakisha, Chris, Haley, Jorden, Blake and Phil. So he didn’t cause it.
So even if it were not for Sanjaya, she was obviously meant to go out soon.

next is haley ,phil, saj of course he is not going to win

Check this out:
Gina, Chris S., and Stephanie were never in the bottom 3 before they were eliminated. Isn’t that a little strange? If this keeps up, then Melinda, Blake, Lakisha, or Jordin is next. That can’t happen! End it next week and send Sanjaya or Haley home!!

“Sanjaya should show the others some respect as well as himself and realize that he is not good and remove himself out of the competion.”
You want Sanjaya to quit because he takes the spotlight from your favorites. Give me a break!
If he actually bow out of the competition, the haters would still bitch about what a quitter he is. Sanjaya can’t win.
“I’m sure he is a nice guy but honestly he is not idol material.”
Yeah like those overrated cows-LAKisha and Melinda are. I can picture them doing another boring un-Latin/Choir song.

^I agree.

It’s not Sanjaya’s fault. In the end, it doesn’t matter who wins. Jennifer Hudson didn’t win and she won a Golden and an Oscar! Clay Aiken didn’t win and he is more famous than Rubben. Chris Daughtry didn’t win and he has a number 1 single. Kellie Pickler didn’t win and she got herself a sitcom.

GO BACK TO HELL, DEVIL-GIRL!!!! You proved with that tongue-ring that you represent nothing but evil and lurid sexuality that has NO PLACE in a Christian show like American Idol where the contestants are supposed to be role models for our children!! You thought Satan would protect you but Jesus is stronger and he gave you the boot!! Glocksen, YOU’RE FINISHED!!! GO BACK TO THE CHURCH OF SATAN OR WHEREVER THE HELL YOU CRAWLED OUT OF!!!YOU AND YOUR RED DEVIL-STREAKS AND MARKING YOUR BODY WITH TATTOOS!! IT IS DISGUSTING!! SHAMELESS!! GET BACK TO MORALITY, AMERICA!!

I am shocked that she is surprised why she got eliminated …I winder why Hmmmm

The folks who complain endlessly about the integrity and purity of a reality show need to get out of the house more.So what if Sanjaya stays? AI is not the Olympics or the presidential election; it is a fricking reality show!
Fox is eating all this publicity up.

american idol is all about votes. there is no wrong or right person to be voted off. they go soley on who has the lower number of votes. and if your a good and talented singer your gona be doing great things weather you win or not.
get a grip people if you dont like how the votes go, then get more people to vote the way you feel.

I was very shocked that Gina Glocksen went home. I was even shocked that she was in the bottom. America, we finally got Haley 2 weeks in the spot to go home and for these 2 weeks she has been safe and she is like the worst on the show. I feel bad for Gina and Chris Sligh because they should have not went home. It should have been Haley. right now I am thinking American Idol is a joke. Thank god Blake, Jordin, Lakisha, Melinda and Chris R are still there because they are the best.

Gina’s song was really off. It was boring, to say the least. She wants to prove to America that she has the voice? Unfortunately, America is sticking it out for Sanjaya, who happens to not have a voice at all. So much for the effort to show the voice, Gina.
