It use to be that if you were a former American Idol finalist looking
to promote an upcoming CD then the best thing to do was claim that you
slept with Paula Abdul. Now, it seems like the new best record
promoting tactic is to voice your support for current American Idol
finalist Sanjaya Malakar.
American Idol 5 finalist Paris Bennett, whose Princess P. CD is set to be released May 8, recently called into the “Tone E Fly Morning Show” in Minneapolis. TMZ.com has audio of the call, where the DJ asked Paris Bennett about Sanjaya Malakar.
Paris Bennett revealed that she and a few other former American Idol finalist were voting for Sanjaya. However, Paris was not voting for Sanjaya because he was her favorite singer, but rather she specifically mentioned vote for the worst. Paris said “We want to see him win because it’ll kind of prove that American Idol is kind of losing its taste and that it kind of isn’t going for talent anymore but more for popularity, so we thinks it’s a joke and we’re voting because it’s funny.”
When the DJ pointed out that American Idol helped Paris with her career but asked if she thought its time was over, Paris said “I think that definitely now having Sanjaya on it, it kind of reminds me of do you ever remember the movie American Dreamz that came out last year.” After the DJ confirmed remembering the movie, Paris said “Ok, remember how there was the Indian guy or the guy from India and then it was Mandy Moore, that’s kind of what the competition seems like right now.” We only wish the DJ had asked Paris which of the remaining female contestants of Lakisha Jones, Melinda Doolittle, and Jordin Sparks that she thought fit the Mandy Moore character.
