Dancing With The Stars Semifinals Prove To Be Close To Perfect

May 14, 2007 08:34 PM by Joe Blackmon

Ian_elvisFor the Dancing with the Stars semifinals, the four remaining couples
performed two dances each.  Judge Len Goodman offered the following
piece of advice to the semifinalists, “I would like to say as far as
we’re concerned the best four couples have made it through to the
semifinals, so congratulations for that.  You’ve been allowed to pick
your favorite dances, so we are expecting some really great
performances.  If we see that you’re going to get some great marks.  If
we don’t see that, well we won’t talk about that.”

For their first dance, Apollo Anton Ohno & Julianne Hough danced the Quickstep.  Len Goodman said “I really expected this to be a really good Quickstep, and I’ve got to say it was fantastic.”  Bruno Tonioli said “The Apollo express is off on a magic ride and you’ve taken American with you.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “Thank you for setting the standard way high for the semi-finals tonight.”  Apollo Anton & Julianne received a score of 30 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Apollo Anton Ohno & Julianne Hough danced the Cha-Cha-Cha.  Bruno Tonioli said “You’re like a shot of adrenaline.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “That was the sexiest Cha-Cha I’ve ever seen.”  Len Goodman said “For me, it was too raunchy.”  Apollo & Julianne received a score of 29 out of 30 points for a combined total of 59 out of 60 points.

For their first dance, Ian Ziering & Cheryl Burke danced the Tango.  Bruno Tonioli said “The demon inside is starting to come out.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “I thought this could be your ten, and somewhere in the middle you just kind of lost it.”  Len Goodman said “That was your best dance ever, it was right on the money.”  Ian & Cheryl received a score of 28 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Ian Ziering & Cheryl Burke danced the Jive.  Carrie Ann Inaba said “This was the Ian that I have been trying to pull out of you week after week.”  Len Goodman said “Well, there you go, that’s the key to it all, you’ve just got to wear a wig every week.”  Bruno Tonioli said “I don’t know if you based yourself on Sanjaya or Liberace, but somehow it works.”  Ian & Cheryl received a score of 30 out of 30 points for a combined total of 58 out of 60 points.

For their first dance, Laila Ali & Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the Quickstep.  Carrie Ann Inaba said “Not only do you hold your own, you bring a whole different sort of vibe to your dancing that I find so unique.”  Len Goodman said “It was great.”  Bruno Tonioli said “What have we got tonight is Cleopatra Ali, the jewel of the Nile.”  Laila & Maksim received a score of 30 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Laila Ali & Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the Cha-Cha-Cha.  Len Goodman said “It had far more content than I’ve seen in the past.”  Bruno Tonioli said “There is no doubt you’re a knockout.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “Your technique really shined through in that one.”  Laila & Maksim received a score of 30 out of 30 points for a combined total of 60 out of 60 points.

For their first dance, Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson danced the Fox Trot.  Len Goodman said “It’s called American smooth, and that was so smooth that I’ve got to say it was right there.”  Bruno Tonioli said “This was a Fox Trot with perfect Hollywood credentials.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “I think just now you won the ballroom round, hands down.”  Joey & Kym received a score of 30 out of 30 points.

For their second dance, Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson danced the Jive.  Bruno Tonioli said “You have more flash than Vegas and more tricks than Houdini.”  Carrie Ann Inaba said “That was fantastic.”  Len Goodman said “You’ve got something that everyone’s got, but yours is much bigger, personality.”  Joey & Kym received a score of 30 out of 30 points for a combined total of 60 out of 60 points.

Who will be the next couple to go home?  With the judges awarding six of the eight dances of the night with perfect scores, the viewer vote will likely have a major impact on the end results.  Our prediction is that Ian Ziering & Cheryl Burke will be the next couple eliminated, but it will be very close and really none of the contestants are safe this week, because everyone was so great.

Tonight’s dances were all great. I was using redial to vote again for the same couple I had voted for before and when the standard “Thanks for voting for ……” came on it gave me the name of a couple that I was not voting for. Did anyone else have that problem? I’m in the central time zone.

    Thanks, just curious.

apollo rocked!! That second dance was a total treat! Len has got issues he needs to fix before coming for judgement. Joey was also grrreat tonight! and so was ian and laila…geeez thats pretty much all of them, huh? They were all really, really good tonight, but apollo joey and ian were my faves today in that order. Laila is just getting to be a little too snotty, a little too conceited lately.

Apollo & Julianne were AWESOME especially in the 2nd dance. I believe they should have gotten 30 points as well. For me, they are the most charismatic couple, I loved their chemistry, and of course, they are SUCH GREAT DANCERS.

Agreed about Laila, great competitor but needs a bit of humility. Also hard to give her 30′s when I usually compare the current dancers to previous dancers and it’s hard to compare her to Stacy and Kelly. With the resurgence of Ian, she could go this week.

Apolo and Julianne were just electric, especially their first dance. I thought the judges were WAY TOO GENEROUS with both Ian and Leila on the first dance. Apolo’s routine was like 10 times more difficult. He was leaps and bounds ahead of them, yet the judges gave them all virtually the same score.

What a fun show! We had a power outage and I missed the first dances. Was so bummed! Apollo has come from such a different world from dancing and has worked so hard that he has won my vote. Never cared for Ian and Lalia just keeps doing the same thing in different costumes. I like her, but have seen other do much more difficult routines. Joey can dance, but show biz has always been his world. GO APOLLO!!

I voted for Apoollo because he is the best non-dancer dancer there. Ian is too stiff, Joey too phony, and Lalia is just not that good and like the previous person said she just changes costumes but does the same routine over and over. Apollo and Julianne rock! Her choreography is amazing for someone so young … some of these pros have been on every season and her dances are way better than theirs … she has a bright future. They should win this thing hands down. I am so disappointed that they didn’t get 60 points but Lalia did … that was the judges’ bias once again (remember Kelly Monaco anyone?) …

I’m glad someone got trough to vote. I tried to vote for Ian and Cheryl using two different phones and the line was constantly busy. I tried from 9:30- 10:45 EDT. I hope they’re in the top 3.

I am glad to see others see what I see in Laila but the judges seem to praise her no matter what..Its obvious to keep Cheryl out of the finals. To compare Laila as as good as the professional woman on the show..Get real…she either moves her top or bottom, very rarely moves both at same time and yes,her steps and moves are the same no matter what dance..this isnt fair to Ian to score him lower just so someone else is in the top 3.
No Ian shouldnt win..Joey came on so strong last night..and rauncy for Apolo…cant Len make up his mind..he likes the girls shaking it up…come on Len..get real. Look at how good Kelly, Lisa Rinna and Stacy were..and they let it all hang out..

seems like we all agree on laila. I really don’t think she was what all the judges hyped about, esp when u compare her to apollo and joey and even ian. I think ian has potential, and he usually starts out well, but loses me in the middle somewhere…but last night his jive was excellent. His best performance yet, but im afraid he might leave today. I think it might be between him and laila. Well, they all have to leave except one, and as long as the last couple standing is apollo and julianne, i’ll get over it. Someone mentioned above about the julianne’s choreography, talent and bright future for someone so young, and i totally agree 100%. I think she’s one of the best female professional dancers ive seen on that show.

Don’t forget that Cheryl was the one who had Drew Lachey win season 2 and Emmitt Smith win season 3 last year.

If Cheryl and Ian go this week, you know Ian’s fans are going to want Laila’s head on a platter next week if that happens.

leila is getting too conceited for words. she thinks she has it bagged. she needs a dose of humility. i agree with others, she does the same dance in different costumes every week. hip rolling and finger pointing, then running across the dance floor for awhile. that’s it.

i don’t like them, but apolo and julianne are the most talented. can’t argue with that point.

joey should not even be there. he is a professional performer. i have seen him do a LOT of dancing prior to this show. not fair to the others.

    ian has no personality.

so, even though they are not my favorites, i think apolo and julianne might take it home!

Do you think Laila is going home tonight, I hear she’s on THIN ICE as far as the judges are concerned, who do NOT want to her to win anyways ?

Apollo and Julianne dance like they are in a disco. This is a ballroom competition. My vote is for Lalia and Maks!

i think ian was amazing, i voted for him 3 times but it took me forever cuz it was always busy. i have a feeling ian is safe this week again. he was great. hope he wins it cuz joey acts like an idiot all the time, trying to act like drew lachey who was in a boy band and won but joey is an idiot, hes so predictable in a way. laila is way too conceited as some one else said and apolo has got to shave that stupid blotch of hair uderh is lip. hes just trying to show that he can grow one but nobody CARES!!!!!!

  18. Mom Says:

Apolo and Julianne are my favorites this season. So much talent. Everything you say about Laila, imo, is true. Ian looks like he has rigormotis (SP)
As for Joey, one can only hope he will learn to keep his tongue in his mouth, before he has a mishap and bites it off….

Joey and Kym will win this hands down. They have the moves and they have the judges in the palm of there hands. Although all 3 dancers are great there will be only one winner and that will be Joey and Kym….
