A trio of golf insiders will be heartbreakers and dream-makers for a
collection of golf inventors who believe they have discovered the next
big idea in golf. On the GOLF CHANNEL’s new original production, Fore
Inventors Only, premiering Tuesday, July 10 at 10 p.m. ET, Fulton
Allem, Bill Harmon and Stina Sternberg will be tasked with critiquing
and paring down 103 hopefuls to five finalists, while uncovering
inventions that range from brilliant to ludicrous along the way.
“All three of our judges are very well respected in the golf industry – based on their accomplishments – and will bring their unique perspectives and personalities to the judging process,” said Jay Kossoff, executive producer of Fore Inventors Only.
Fulton Allem, a PGA TOUR professional from South Africa who has accumulated 14 worldwide professional victories, is known as one of more outspoken golfers in PGA TOUR history. Allem will turn 50 later this year and make his debut on the Champions Tour.
“Many of the inventions are brilliant, while others are flat-out nuts,” said Allem. “The true spirit of improving is through practice, and the inventors’ passion to make golf more enjoyable is remarkable.”
Bill Harmon, a Golf Digest top-50 instructor, is son of 1948 Masters champion and world-class teacher Claude Harmon, and part of golf’s elite teaching family. Currently director of golf for Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, Calif., and Carnegie Abbey in Rhode Island, Harmon’s students include Billy Andrade, Stacy Prammanasudh, Jay Haas, and Nicole Castrale, who captured her first career LPGA Tour victory in June.
“Viewers are not going to believe the creativity of the inventors,” said Harmon. “If it takes a genius to create simplicity, then we are in the presence of many geniuses.
Stina Sternberg, Golf for Women senior editor, heads up the magazine’s equipment coverage and is widely regarded as one of the top golf equipment journalists in the country. Sternberg also serves as host of GOLF CHANNEL’s Golf With Style: Global Challenge lifestyle travel show, and is a frequent contributor to The Turn magazine instruction show. A former teaching professional and club fitter and never one to hold back her opinions, Sternberg will bring her unique perspective to judging the inventions.
“Some of these inventions are so good I’d put money on the table right now,” explained Sternberg. “On the other hand, some of these ‘Willy Wonka wannabees’ should just wake up and smell the coffee.”
Hosted by Vince Cellini, Fore Inventors Only scoured the country interviewing and auditioning more than 1,000 candidates to find the 103 who will compete in the series. The first stage of the competition will feature the 103 hopefuls auditioning their concepts to the judges to determine who will continue. The judges then will oversee field testing and consumer product pitches to consumers before narrowing the candidates to five finalists. Ultimately, viewers will cast their votes to determine the winner on the series’ live season finale on Sept. 4.
