David Jones Wins Fore Inventors Only
September 06, 2007 11:27 PM by Joe Blackmon
America voted, and David Jones’ Club Caddy invention was crowned the
winner on Tuesday’s live season finale of Fore Inventors Only , the
GOLF CHANNEL original series that searched for America’s next great
golf invention.
“For the first time in this competition, I am speechless,” said Jones at the conclusion of the show. Receiving 30% of America’s votes, Club Caddy will receive shelf space at all Golfsmith retail stores throughout North America for one year; a fully developed infomercial and $50,000 worth of commercial and promotional air time on the GOLF CHANNEL.
Actor/comedian George Lopez and GOLF CHANNEL’s Rich Lerner co-hosted the finale which aired live in front of a studio audience at the GOLF CHANNEL’s network studios in Orlando, Fla. Club Caddy, a clip that resembles the end of a jumper cable, attaches to a golf club around the green allowing it to become free-standing in an upright position, preventing the player from having to bend over to pick up their clubs. Jones, 55, from Martinez, Ga., is a warehouse manager who has invested $40,000 on his invention.
“We invented that first,” joked Lopez while examining the Club Caddy at the start of the show. “Only we connected it to a positive and negative and started our cars.”
Hill Shot Golf Trainer (Larry and Brandi Koch, Prospect, Ky.) finished runner-up in the competition, receiving 24% of the votes. Club Glider (Gary Sherrell, Maple Valley, Wash.) garnered 17% of the votes; Z Factor Perfect Putting Machine (Dean Thompson, Boise, Idaho) finished with 15% and Pro Play GPS (Marcus Bohn, Chandler, Ariz., and Tim Kipley, McKinney, Texas) ended with 13% of the overall votes.
