The Byers Family On Extreme Makeover Home Edition

October 07, 2007 12:02 AM by Joe Blackmon

Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition pays a visit to the Byers family of
Corvallis, Oregon.  Seven year old Jenessa Byers, who was diagnosed
with pediatric cancer in 2006, decided she wanted to help others find
the strength and inspiration to beat cancer.  Along with her mother
Rachel, Jenessa developed a webpage where she posts daily affirmations
like "cancer sucks."

Jenessa’s mission is to raise awareness and financial support for pediatric cancer.  Over the past 12 months, millions of people worldwide have logged on to see this little girl’s video blog chronicling her fight against cancer.  Jenessa has also raised money, toys and donations for other cancer patients.

Before Jenessa was diagnosed with cancer, the Byers had dreams of renovating their home.  But as soon as the cancer appeared, the renovations became the least of their worries.  An outdated and dirty heating system only heats a part of the home, and the wiring is exposed throughout the house, making it dangerous for the children to be around.  In addition, mold and toxins have caused health concerns to both Jenessa and her brother, 13-year-old Joey, who suffers from severe asthma.

The condition of the home is so bad that it has forced Joey to move into his grandparents’ home.  To make matters worse, Jenessa’s cancer has reappeared.  In this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," Ty and the gang will fix the home and reunite this family, so they can fight against Jenessa’s cancer together.

While Ty and the designers, local builder Legend Homes and hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Byers family will go on vacation to Disney Vacation Club in Hilton Head, NC.

This season every episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is going green by incorporating eco-friendly, low-energy and recyclable resources in the builds. For the Byers family, the home will have new bathrooms made from 90% recycled material. These well built cast-iron-with-enamel lavatories are not only eco-friendly, but they also withstand staining, scratching and chipping, and provide exceptional durability.

The design team for this episode will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders, Tracy Hutson and Tanya McQueen.  Extreme Makeover Home Edition airs on Sunday, October 7 from 8:00PM to 9:00PM ET on the ABC Television Network.

This pathetic sob show continues its march toward a saccharine overdose.
All the familiies or half-families are interchangeable. Grateful smiles behind dreaded diseases and new homes!!Yuck!
This ranks with Dog Bounty Hunter and Kid Nation as pure junk but this sorry mess yanks at heartstrings while the carpenters pound our brains and the walls!
A disgusting display of human emotions emoting as entertainment!!! Non-Realty calling!!!

I watch almost every episode. I would like to see more of the houses that are built and less of the hugging and crying!

St. Jude Hospital has a program where people can donate soda can pull tabs for patients to receive free or reduced chemo therapy. Are Boey’s treatments through St. Jude and does she have need of the soda can pull tabs? We’ve saved them for such a need as Boey’s. Please advise us on this issue. Thank you! Please let Boey know others are praying with her. Sincerely, Donna Ivy

As some people look down on this show I think it is important to remember the message of a show like this. This show is about giving to others less fortunate and helping them out. With all the problems in the world and shows about violence and sex predetors it is refreshing to watch a show do something good. I am sure all the tugging on the heart strings is about making good TV, but the whole point is doing something good for someone else. I personally think Sears, ABC and all the contractors are great for giving their time and efforts to the cause!

I think your show is wonderful you are doing a great job for thoes who need help the smiles on the faces you help are woprth more than the house cost. Jennessa really grabed my heart to see someone with cance who wants to help others was great. Tell Jennessa that their is a new fruit called mangosteen that helps people with cancer it coatains the xantones that slow cancer cells growth and also stops their growth The Juice is called Xango. check it out no harm to anyone and it has no side effects.Several people I know have gone in remmision and have no signs of cancer anymore-check on it-. Keep up the great work ty

I think that this show is remarkable. It shows how big some peoples’ hearts can be and how much they’ll actually do to make someone else’s life better. There is nothing that is yuck or pathetic about these peoples’ lives and how much ABC does to help them.
