The Next Great American Band Results – The Hatch And The Likes Of You Eliminated

November 02, 2007 10:59 PM by Joe Blackmon

ThehatcheliminatedOn the first Next Great American Band results show, two bands were
eliminated and the top ten bands performed two songs each in front of
the judges.  One of the songs was an original composition and the other
song was a song by Elton John & Bernie Taupin.

Sixwire performed the original song “Gotta Get Away” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.”  John Rzeznik said “You guys have just been dominating everything that you’ve done.”  Shelia E. said “You guys are just like a warm blanket, and I love the way that you cover me.”  Dicko said “That original song was great.”

Tres Bien performed the original song “How I Feel” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Love Lies Bleeding.”  John Rzeznik said “You guys killed that Elton John song.”  Shelia E. said “The original song was great.”  Dicko said “You seem to be riding a great wave right now, but focus, focus, focus on your musicianship.”

Franklin Bridge performed the original song “Love’s Fool” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Philadelphia Freedom.”  John Rzeznik said “I wanted to hear the whole song because it was so good.”  Shelia E. said “Your musicianship is incredible.”  Dicko said “I said last week that you over arranged stuff, and certainly the second song I felt was over arranged.”

The Clark Brothers performed the original song “Country Time” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Country Comfort.”  John Rzeznik said “I liked the original, you guys that’s a really strong song.”  Shelia E. said “Your vocals were incredible.”  Dicko said “The original was great.”

Light Of Doom performed the original song “Light Of Doom” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting.”  John Rzeznik said “You just peeled the paint off that song.  It’s amazing.”  Shelia E. said “You rock, congratulations.”  Dicko said “I still think it’s all a bit weird.”

Dot Dot Dot performed the original song “Stay” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Your Song.”  John Rzeznik said “You guys really stepped it up this week.”  Shelia E. said “It was good, but I was a little bit afraid.”  Dicko said “It was a step up musically.”

Cliff Wagner & The Old No. 7 performed the original song “Little White Chapel” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Honky Cat.”  John Rzeznik said “To me you guys are the funnest band in this whole competition.”  Shelia E. said “You guys are having fun, and it shows.”  Dicko said “I for one had no idea that rednecks could be so much fun.”

The Muggs performed the original song “Should’ve Learned My Lesson” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.”  John Rzeznik said “Your original was amazing.”  Shelia E. said “I think that you guys are an amazing rock back instrumentally, but vocally it’s very disappointing, because I need you to rise to the occasion.”  Dicko said “It was tuneless rubbish.”

Rocket performed the original song “Future Ex-Boyfriend” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “Rocket Man.”  John Rzeznik said “You guys have definitely won the audience over.”  Shelia E. said “Those vocals are horrific.  They’re awful.”  Dicko said “You’re singing in the top of your throat.  It’s time for you to get some vocal coaching.”

Denver & The Mile High Orchestra performed the original song “All Night” and Elton John & Bernie Taupin’s “I’m Still Standing.”  John Rzeznik said “That was amazing.”  Shelia E. said “It was fantastic.”  Dicko said “Denver, where’s your red suit.  I liked that.  No, I’m joking.”

The two bands eliminated from the competition were The Hatch and The Likes Of You.  After host Dominic Bowden asked them how they were feeling, one of the members of The Hatch said “I would like to say that America’s spoken, but I can’t really say that that’s really true.  I think about three hundred people in Nebraska have spoken.”  Bowden did not seem amused by the band’s answer, which was likely a jab at the low ratings the show has been receiving.

I’m so glad the Hatch got eliminated but I wish The Likes Of You stayed and Rocket went.

What an idiot for saying what he said. The show got 2.6 million viewers so 2.6 million people had there say.

Sheila E. is an idiot.. who calls someone horrific? Rocket is the best band on the show, they have star potential and more charisma then any of the other bands put together. Lauren Rocket is not trying to be the next American Idol. Whatever… Der.

Rocket, Dot Dot Dot and Light of Doom all hurt my ears! Out of tune, out of talent and out of personality. The Likes of You had the best vocalist and songwriting by far. This show is a joke and an insult to all good musicians. The Likes of You already have a recording deal lined up and getting eliminated from this show was the best thing for them. They get to keep their dignity, write good music and perform and go on to better things. Good Luck to 19 Records with whichever lackluster band wins this biased and inane contest.

I don’t understand how Rocket made it thru to the actual show. This girl couldn’t see if her life depended on it. Her vocals are horrific…..The band reminds me of a rip-off of the Go Go’s.
The Muggs can play, but can’t sing. Sixwire is the best on that show…I don’t inderstand why a band that talented would have to go on a show like that. They are in a different caliber than the other acts.

ROCKET ROCKS!!! They are the best band up there… They will be the band who wins and provides America with the goods… They are amazing role models and beautiful and talented. The judges are “has been”, scripted idiots w/ no idea what’s going on in the world. GO ROCKET!

Wow, Willamena you should really go and have your ears checked if you think Rocket will win. Those girls are on their way out. The judges know what their talking about..especially John Rzeznik. he’s been in the business for 21 years and is still touring and releasing new material. The only has beens are The Rockets.
