In a special two part two-hour episode of Extreme Makeover Home
Edition, Ty Pennington and his team celebrate building a house for the
100th family. The lucky 100th family is the Swenson-Lee family of
On September 22, 2006, Vicki and Erik Swenson-Lee were struck by a tragedy in their family. Teri Lee, who was Vicki’s sister, was murdered in her home by her estranged ex-boyfriend. Teri Lee left behind four children — Taylor (12), her younger sister, Tara (6) and two sons, Ty (10) and Trevor (8). The children’s father had been killed in a car accident in 2001, so the children were left as orphans.
The tragedy inspired Vicki to get involved in helping to protect women and children from domestic violence. In honor of her sister, Vicki has helped write two bills that have recently been passed into legislation.
The Swenson-Lees took their four nieces and nephews into their own family. Because Vicki and Erik have three young daughters and are expecting a fourth in November, they will soon be a family of ten. With eight kids, their current house will be too small. Plus, Vicki and Erik are worried that their teachers’ salaries won’t provide enough income to raise eight children. Because of financial constraints, Vicki and Erik are unable to renovate their home to make it sufficient for their large family.
However, good news is on the way for the Swenson-Lees. Ty Pennington, the designers, local builder TJB Homes, Inc., and hundreds of volunteers and workers will rebuild their home in just seven days. Also, in a unique twist, family members from eight previous episodes of Extreme Makeover Home Edition will work as special volunteers. While their home is being rebuilt, the Swenson-Lee family will enjoy a trip to Disneyland.
This special two-part edition of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs Sunday, November 25 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM ET on ABC.
