How do you take a show running its 16th season and twist it to make it different and exciting? If anyone’s up to the challenge, it’s the producers of CBS’s Survivor.
The upcoming Survivor: Micronesia’s twist will be in the cast, which was revealed yesterday on Ew.com. This season they’ll be pitting Fans vs. Favorites — that is to say, matching stars from past seasons of Survivor against a tribe of their fans and followers.
So who are the All-Stars that will be coming back to make us love (and hate) them all over again? From Survivor: China, we’ll see a return of Amanda Kimmel and her favorite gravedigger James Clement. Yau-Man Chan will be there, representing the Survivor: Fiji season. Cook Islands brings us three contestants: Ozzy Lusth, Parvati Shallow, and the strategizing Jonathan Penner. Cirie Fields from Survivor: Panama will be joining the tribe, as will Eliza Orlins and Amy Cusack (both from Vanuatu). And what Survivor All-Star season would be complete without a star everyone loves to hate? That’s right, the tribe will be graced with the presence of Jon “Johnny Fairplay” Dalton (what family member does he plan to knock off for sympathy this season?) from the Pearl Islands season.
As for the fans taking on the celebs…will they have an advantage over past contestants by being followers of the show and so “knowing” what they’re getting into? Or will they be so “star-struck” by the Favorites tribe that they’ll be intimidated into oblivion? This tribe consists of a writer, a commercial builder, a firefighter, a golf course vendor, an ice-cream scooper, a small business owner, a beauty pageant coach, a personal trainer, a student teacher, and a motivational speaker.
