On this week’s episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Ty Pennington and crew visit the Byers family of Corvallis, Oregon. This episode originally aired in October of 2007 and introduced the world to the inspirational story of eight year old Jenessa Byers.

In 2006, Jenessa Byers was diagnosed with pediatric cancer. In an effort to help others find the strength and inspiration to beat cancer, Jenessa started a webpage with her mother Rachel. Jenessa posted daily affirmations on her webpage with messages like “cancer sucks.” Jenessa helped to raise awareness and financial support for pediatric cancer.

The Byers family home had an outdated heating system, exposed wiring, and mold and toxins. The mold and toxins created health concerns for both Jenessa and her thirteen year old brother Joey, who has asthma.

In the episode, Ty Pennington and his designers, local builder Legend Homes, and hundreds of volunteers and workers rebuild the Byers family home. The design team consisted of Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders, Tracy Hutson and Tanya McQueen.

Sadly, since the time this episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition originally aired, Jenessa Byers has passed away. According to a report in the Gazette Times, Jenessa Byers died Friday, December 29, 2007 from pneumonia.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition airs on Sunday, February 3, 2008 from 7 PM to 8 PM ET on ABC.
