Officially titled “The Real World Awards Bash: Roast ‘Em and Toast ‘Em,” the special will bring together the roommates of all past seasons to relive hilarious and dramatic Real World moments. More than just an awards show, the special will also be a “roast,” where roommates past and present will be hilariously called on the carpet for hi-jinks and mishaps.
Not all about fun and games, however, the special will also call to attention the many socially-important causes Real World has brought to America’s attention through the show, including AIDS, abortion, racism, homophobia, addiction, and eating disorders. It will also spend some time honoring fallen Real World roommates, Pedro Zamora, of Real World: San Francisco, who died of AIDS; and Real World: San Diego’s, Frankie Abernathy, who lost her battle to cystic fibrosis.
From today through February 29, fans can log on at realworldawards.mtv.com and cast their votes for the winners of various awards, including “Best Meltdown,” “Best Fight,” “Hottest Male,” “Hottest Female,” “Favorite Love Story,” and “Favorite Season,” among others.
Real World, which launched in 1992, is the longest-running series in reality TV history. Past seasons have taken place in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, Paris, San Diego, Philadelphia, Austin, Key West, Denver and Sydney. The landmark 20th season, “The Real World: Hollywood,”will premiere right after the awards show.
